  1. Graphics Card Driver Randomly Stops Responding

As of recently my graphics card driver has stopped responding at times and eventually recovers with windows coming with the usual pop up something along the lines of: "Your Graphics Card Driver Stopped Unexpectedly and has now recovered"

This happened once and I shruged it of as maybe a one time thing and said to myself if it happens again I will look into it as it might become a persistent problem.

I have the latest Graphics Card Driver for my Graphics Chip on my AMD A6-5200 APU
    (AMD Radeon 8400)

This has happened twice so far and nothing like it has ever happened before.
My thoughts lead me to believe that it could possibly be a bug in the driver or a corrupt installation or otherwise to do with the current driver version I have. However it has happened once while I was burning a linux distrobution to a disk and once while I was playing a game.

If anyone has any suggestions then it would be gladly appreciated

    Note:
Had another account on the windows 8 forums for a while, thought I could log in to the windows 10 forums with the same account but apparently not, so I created another one with the same name

    :)

    video_TDR_failure error on lenovo 320 15 AST

    Hi,

The error message VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE occurs when the graphics display driver for the installed graphics card stop responding due to being overloaded or outdated. We suggest checking if you have the latest graphics driver to make sure your driver is compatible
    with the graphics card.

If anything comes up, don't hesitate to get back to us anytime.

Graphics Card Driver Randomly Stops Responding

You are getting what they Call TDR's. They are usually caused by a bad driver and or VC. I would try to use DDU and remove your present driver and then re-install it. This little app will take you to safe mode , remove all traces of your driver and the re-boot so you can install fresh. I have used this app many times and it works as designed. Welcome to the Forum BTW:*Smile

  6. Thanks Gary,
I used the DDU Software and removed the drivers completely without error.
I then re-installed the drivers using AMD's auto detect tool.

Its now a waiting game as to if it happens again.
If it still hasn't occured again within a few weeks i'll mark the thread as solved.

    Note:
Do you know if it is possible to migrate my account from the windows 8 forums because I have been a member since Feburary on there but I can't login as that account on these forums so it must be separate but its just that I only want to have to keep one account and I won't be using the windows 8 forums again because I won't be wanting to go back to that horrible operating system any time soon.

Graphics Card Driver Randomly Stops Responding

I hope this helps with a what appears to be a major problem for some.

This "Graphics Driver Has Stopped Responding And Been Restarted" problem appeared on my system when playing Farcry4 and seemed to be a random act.
I researched and got nowhere fast so removed everything loaded in the background, as shown on hidden icons, using Task Manager.
Problem gone so restarted Windows 10 and found it to return.
Disabled all of Avast free version and Malwarebyte Anti-Malware along with Cloud to again find problem gone.
    As a check I played Farcry4 for 3 hours - no problem
Restarted Windows again with Avast, etc. - lasted 20 mins then ""Graphics Driver Has Stopped Responding And Been Restarted" again.
Disabled again and system OK once more.
I am happy my system is OK with playing games and the items disabled but do run scans after a game session.
    Good luck

  9. I understand that you are okay with having Avast disabled but personally I would search for a resolution because disabling antivirus isn't a good thing.
    - Search around on the internet in forums etc (As much as I fully understand that you can spend loads and loads of time searching forums and such, each time that I have had to, eventually you stumble upon a forum that has a fix that works.) If you don't find a fix you could post about the problem on a forum such as this one or Avast's forums etc.
    - Try using the DDU Software tool and see if that works (See Gary's post above)
    - If all else fails I would recommend trying out another antivirus program because as I said before its not brilliant to have to disable antivirus.

But its up to you, just thought I might as well say something.

    Hi Ghostcatcher

Sorry but you missed the point. All the so called fixes have not worked. If DDU had worked then Gary's post would have been closed. I have already installed a different virus checker but I wanted to leave the question open so others could find a virus program of their own choice. Also I have disabled malewarebytes to see if that is the problem.
It might of course be the cloud that is causing the problem though I doubt it. It is obviously one of them and not necessarily, as so many are saying, Microsoft's poor programming. This problem is not just on Windows 10 but also it is reported on 7 and 8.

I wanted to give an immediate chance for users to enjoy their games again whilst giving them guidance as to what might be wrong and I am sure that any user of this forum will be well aware of the risks they take in not using a virus prevention program.

    Have a good new year
    Ted

Major update and apology for my last advice.
The problem returned so I called EVGA and on following their advice all is definitely OK.
They had me delete the driver and remove all traces from my HD.
They then had me restart in safe mode and again search for and remove any traces of the downloaded or installed driver both manually and under program removal.
They then got me to use the Sweeper program to remove all traces of anything found in the registry that related to Nvidia.
Once done, I restarted Windows and downloaded the latest driver from Nvidia and installed it using the custom setting for a clean - new installation.
I have played FarCry4 for 7 days now on the highest settings and no driver errors reported.
Their explanation was that traces of the previous driver(s) were not being fully removed and that was causing the problems. They also said the same problem can be found using AMD and Intel driver installations.
