    Great Free subtitle translator

    Hi folks
For those who'se native language is not English or who just want subtitles in languages not normally available this FREE process will translate (decently --the wonders today of A.I !!) a subtitle from one language to another -- Evin Latin if you ar bonkers enough to want it !!!!!! (although how Nuclear explosion would translate !!!)

@Kari -- might be useful for Finnish collegues too if they want Finnish subtitles

    1) get subtitle from decent source -- Addic7ed.com is my favorite, opensubtitles.org is another one --Addic7ed has a better search IMO but your choice. Note initial registration is required -- I've found no hacks etc --seems safe enough --used those for years to get English subtitles.

    2) logon to Translate/edit SRT Subtitles for Free - Subtitle Translator

    3) Upload your subtitle file --needs to be an .srt subtitle file

    4) select language

    5) auto translate

    6) download file

    7) play movie / TV episode using the downloaded subtitle file (probably better to rename it as file with the 2 char country code as it will be downloaded as xxxx.eng(1).srt if the uploaded file was xxxx.eng.srt

You can use subtitles in most major languages as the source language for translation -- probably best to use though one where the A.I is better developed such as English/German/Dutch etc than obscure ones.

This does work -- just finishing translating some episodes of Chernobyl (BTW excellent TV series if you haven't seen it) for my aging parents as the dialog in this series isn't the clearest I've ever heard --and I've got good hearing --- a lot of modern productions seem to have fairly poor quality dialog these days though !!!!

@Kari -- does finnish translate OK -- I'm quite impressed with the icelandic translations --you get a tiny number of errors e.g soldiers wanting magazines for their weapons and asking "New Comics please" !!!! but on the whole excellent.

I suspect a lot of professional translators etc will be out of work soon if this type of A.I improves at this rate --machine translation used to be a total joke --not any more !!!

    Cheers

    Hi folks

anybody tried this yet ---- Machine translations seem to be getting better as the A.I improves -- probably a lot easier to do a machine rough translate and then fix manually than try the whole thing.

The only problem seems to be that it's an "online" translate-- I'm always suspicious of these "Online" type of apps -- would prefer to have a program installed locally on the machine.

Anybody used this and found snags with online usage. Or better any decent tool to do this that can be installed locally on Windows.

(I'm using subtitles a lot more these days --not because I'm going deaf but modern TV / Videos always seem to be shot at night, in the dark and usually with unclear / mumbled dialog with over loud sound effects.

I know it's not my ears because old classic movies etc play and sound perfectly !!! even some old black and white early Hitchcock films and of course the classic North by North west with that great scene at Mt Rushmore.

    Cheers

    Displaying subtitles

    Hi,

My name is Angel. I am an Independent Advisor. Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I would suggest you to follow these steps: to select subtitle file in videos:

-Normally, the app attempts to search for subtitle file associated with the video file playing. But if it can’t find it, or there is other subtitle file you want to use, just click the subtitle icon on the control bar (it’s between play button and volume button),
    then select “Choose subtitle file”

-Now browse for the subtitle file and you’re done!

Hope the information provided is useful. If the issue persists, reply here and we will be glad to help you.

    Angel.
