Windows 10: greyscale printing

I have a new laptop with windows 11. I have an Epson stylus SX525WD printer. Never had any problems with old laptop but now cannot get anything to print in greyscale... when I go to printer properties the old tickbox is not there. I have looked at all the tabs etc but nothing to let me choose greyscale. I opt for it on the print option but it still prints colour. Help....

Problem printing in greyscale

I am using an Epson XP-8700 six-colour inkjet with Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

I have a colour picture that I took and have printed in colour with no difficulty. I am now trying to print the same picture in greyscale from Visio. I am using Visio because I need to put the picture in a specific position for it to work in a photoframe - exactly as I did in colour - and add a caption below. I am using Epson Premium Glossy A4 paper.

Whenever I print the picture it comes out in a sort of sunset red colour - one might call it redscale as it still has gradient. I have tried printing directly from photo software - Serif Affinity, PS Elements 11, Corel PaintshopPro 2020 64bit, - but the outcome is the same. I can print it in greyscale if I use my HP Laserjet mono printer on quality 'normal' paper but it looks a bit 'thin' suggesting it may be seeing the picture as redscale?

One point: when setting up printing in the above software the displayed picture is in greyscale <except> Affinity which shows the picture in redscale. It is thus difficult to decided whether the colour is coming from the printer setup or the software on the computer. The results of Affinity would suggest it is the software causing the problem.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Problem printing in greyscale

You gave me a good idea Emily. I checked my laptop and was uncertain whether the driver (etc) suite was the newest so I reinstalled the lot from CD. I then found a different picture (i.e. not the one I had been using before) and used Windows Photo Viewer to print it - software that I had also not used before - set to greyscale. It came out greyscale albeit rather rastered but that turned out to be due to low LC and LM inks.

I replaced the inks, then turned to my desktop PC and reinstalled the software there as well including updates. I took a chance and printed in colour with the drivers set to greyscale - and it worked. I had been using Epson Premium Glossy before but this time I used Permajet Oyster 271 (a slight pearl/lustre pro paper) and that worked as well. The print did have a barely visible dark cyan tint, but past experience suggests that it is due to the paper mis-match.

Overall I am happy with the results (as, thankfully, is my wife!) and have already put it (with two other pictures) in display frames.

Greyscale Printing Not Available in Latest Windows 10

I cannot find a way to select greyscale printing in Windows 10, my default printer is an Epson WF2760. I had no problems until the latest Win 10 update. Any suggestions?
