Windows 10: Groove/new Media Player not working, not recognising properties of songs, solution

I just updated my apps, and found that Groove had a whole new look and was now called Media Player. But just a day after, I found that all of my songs are now put in one single album, called "Unknown Album" whose artist is "Unknown artist" and the duration of every song is 0:00. I checked my songs to see if they're lost their properties, but they retain their properties.Resetting the app seems to have solved the problem. But I can't be sure as the app run into an error one day after the update only.

I solved it by doing the following! I'm not sure which step cracked the problem.

1. Set indexing to index the content of my music files by right clicking on the top level folder, setting the option and applying to all files and sub-folders
2. Rebuilt the index via the Control Panel Indexing options
3. Deleted the folders watched in Groove
4. Deleted the Groove database at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ZuneMusic_<random>\LocalState\Database
5. Started Groove
6. Reassigned the folders to watch

All songs now appear with the right artist & album but some album art was missing in Groove and Media Player despite being displayed correctly in iTunes. I manually updated the missing album art in Media Player and Groove then synchronised to match the Media Player album art.

I drag 250Gb of music into the playlist and they bork. LOL. I realise that was probably a big ask but in these days of massive storage for cheap a media player should handle it. And don't get me started on why I have 22 albums listed with 1 song in each for a 22 track album.....
Anyway I am lazy and do not want to do anything, I just want a media player that works OOB. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

 

How to edit song properties on Groove Music?

I do not get that option when I click on "• • • More". Even if I did, that looks like it gives you info about the album. How does that allow you to edit song properties?

I can right click on a song and select Properties. But it does not allow me to edit anything. And these songs are not from a Groove Music Pass.
