  1. "Group by" stuck in File Explorer folders

Ever since I got the Windows 11 22H2 update, where you can see some things were changed in File Explorer, my folders are constantly reverting to Group by Date modified and sorted by Date modified. It's also not recognizing the type of files in the folder and tailoring options for them, such as music and being able to right-click and add Length or Bit rate easily. It never did this before. Changing to Group by none and sorted by Name, then applying to all folders in settings, does not work. Every new folder is back to Group by Date modified and sorted by Date modified and ones you change often

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Quick Access: Folder & File Grouping (QA grouped by type, folder or file) ceased working

Actually, apologies, I spoke too soon, I rebooted (still had same issue which emerged after a Win10 crash this AM for unknown reason) then executed your suggestion (which to be clear for others was the following steps):

    • Opened "File Explorer"
    • Went to View
    • Selected Options from toolbar
    • Selected Change Folder and Search Options - this opened Folder Options box
    • Selected View for View tab
    • in Folder Views box clicked on Reset Folder
And voila, worked. Earlier try not sure why it did not work but after reboot (and with continued Quick Access issue) this worked.

  3. Files remain in original folder after moving them to new folder in file explorer

    Hi,

The issue that you’ve encountered regarding the File Explorer may be caused by some configuration or files mismatched. To sort out your concern, we suggest that you reset the folder settings from the
Folder Options. This will reboot the folder’s preferences to its default state and remove any possible software conflict. To do this, you may follow these steps:

    • Click Start, type File Explorer, and press
      Enter
      .
    • On the File Explorer window, click the View tab > Options > Change folder and search options > View.
    • Under the Folder views section, click Reset Folders, and then select
      Yes to confirm.
    • Once you’re done, click OK, and then check if the issue persists.

Note: This process will remove the list of files that you recently opened.

Let us know if the suggestion works for you.

"Group by" stuck in File Explorer folders

    Locking the file explorer

After many failed attempts to disable the file explorer, automatic grouping of file names in alphabetical order suggested, the work around suggested fails miserably. Using the “group by” has been found to be completely incapable of working.
The “group by” procedure found online is”
    1. Open the file explorer
    2. Navigate to the folder containing the files to be renamed.
    3. Click the view tab.
    4. Click the down arrow to access the “Group by” pull down menu.
    5. Clicking the “Date created” category or any other category except the “Name” category.
    6. Again click the down arrow to access the “Group by” pull down menu
    7. Click “None”
After manually changing the “File name” and clicking “Enter”. The “File name” category once again automatically reorganizes the in alphabetical order. In effect Steps 1 thru 7 accomplishes nothing.
Additionally, if I repeat the process in a folder containing nothing but “MP4 Video Files (VLC)” in the “Type” category” and run the “Group by” process it still continues to resort the names alphabetically. It then places a new blank Deltacad file into the Folder having files being renamed. It then launches and plays the changed video file with the VLC media player.
