  1. GTX 1050 2gb performance on LG 29UM59A-P

Hey, im still fairly new to pc gaming. I got a laptop (specs below) with gtx 1050 2gb. I found an ultrawide freesync monitor with 2560x1080p resolution with 75hz. I do know that you don't get freesync with nvidia gpu. So, my understanding is, since I'm a budget gamer here, is it worth getting a monitor? The link to the monitor is down below and a coupon code i have found lets me get the monitor at $180 instead of $400. No joke! But, what i really want to know is, can i still game at least around 60 fps with games like fortnite, rocket league, Battlefield 1, pubg, paladins, l4d2, and other games? I do know PUBG is a gpu heavy game and i get abotu 60 fps with low settings 900p. Also, can i use features like nvidia fast sync or adaptive vsync to remove screen tearing for smooth game play without losing frames on that ultrawide freesync monitor? I kinda want to get that ultrawide monitor since its on sale. I still play on my laptop screen in the meantime.

Monitor has only hdmi and usb c/thunderbolt 3. My laptop has TB3 as well. Can i use a TB3 cable and get the same performance as i would with an HDMI?

While it sounds the same, a laptop GPU is not the same as a desktop GTX 1050.

Even at those crazy cost savings, I think you would begin to see dips in FPS with this configuration and this monitor.

  5. The LG has higher native resolution than your laptop so there's no way you'll get better performance than playing on your laptop.

If you get 60fps in PUBG playing at 900p on your laptop then you'll get the same 60fps playing at 900p on the external monitor (assuming you disable your laptop monitor when playing). But obviously there's a benefit of having a larger screen in that everything is bigger and easier to see.

As you mentioned the monitor only supports FreeSync so you'll only get the benefit of adaptive v-sync, which is better than nothing.

Connecting a monitor with HDMI or TB3 (i.e. DisplayPort) won't have any difference in performance with that 2K monitor.

  6. I might build a pc with 1050 TI and found a decent price freesync 21:9 monitor with 75hz refresh rate. Hopefully adaptive v sync works. As long there's no tearing and buttery smooth (at least), im ok.

The monitor you have referenced is an IPS screen which have a relatively slow response time, you won't see any difference in going from 60 Hz to 75 Hz.
Depends what screen you have in that Laptop but if the External one has a higher resolution then it needs more umpf to drive it the same because of the greater pixel count.
Twice as many pixels, and the framerate drops by half assuming everything thing else being equal.

You have to be careful as the Laptop may not have the specifications on the output for such monitors, needs careful checking.

For desktop gaming I thought you'd need at least a GTX1060.
Definitely not a 1050 or lower.
    That's the advice a co-worker gave me.

He said that for proper gaming a 1070 or 1080 would be better.
But I'm not that big on gaming, so I settled for a 1060.

  9. A lot of gamers still use 5XX, 6XX, 7XX, and 9XX Nvidia cards and happily play their video games.

I'm still rocking a GTX 960 and happily playing everything at maximum settings.

  10. I I sold my laptop and decided to get a gtx 1060 3gb build. I might have to get a gsync monitor either way.
