    GWXUX Has Stopped working

    Having installed Windows 10, and NOT enjoyed it, I have reverted back to Windows 8.1 but am continuously getting the message GWXUX HAS STOPPED WORKING. I cannot find a way of removing the Windows 10 update, listed in the Windows Updates.

    Any help would be much appreciated

    Hi Paul,

    Thank you for posting in Community, we understand your concern and we will try our best to help you resolve the issue.

    GWXUX HAS STOPPED WORKING is an error that pop up when Windows 10 reservation has not executed as it was suppose to. In your case since you do not want the update, I would suggest that you follow the steps provided below to
    Hide/Block update.

    1. Uninstall KB3035583 which is the number for the installation of Windows 10.

    2. Then go to> Control panel>windows update>installed updates,sort by name>Update for Microsoft Windows KB3035583 and click on uninstall and reboot your system.

    3. Then navigate to Windows\System32\GWX.



    Note: You may have to take ownership of the folder before deleting it as it may prompt admin permission.

    To take ownership of a folder follow the steps mentioned below

    • Right click on the folder that you want to take ownership of, then tap
      Properties      .
    • Tap or click the Security tab, tap or click Advanced, then tap or click
      Change. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    • Type the name of the person that you want to give ownership to, and then click
      Check Names.
    • Note: the account name for the person that you are assigning ownership to is displayed.
    • Click OK.
    • If you want this person to be the owner of the files and subfolders that are contained in this folder, select the
      Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.
    • Click OK.

    "GWXUX has stopped working" error for Windows 10

    Hi,

    I wanted to reserve Windows 10 for my computer, however when I click on the icon in the taskbar it loads and then says "GWXUX has stopped working" It then closes the program. I have Windows 8.1 and want to reserve Windows 10 for free while it's here.

    Please help!
