Windows 10: Hacked - Something Typed In My Excel

I logged into my home computer this evening and was working in Excel when something started typing multiple account usernames and passwords into my Excel sheet that were correct. I was able to disconnect the internet, perform a factory reset, and have changed the passwords to my accounts. It doesn’t seem to have accessed anything at this time….. I’m not sure if this was a bot as it repeatedly typed username and passwords out 4 or 5 in total. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Excel file type disappeared

Can you open Excel without trying to open a file. There should be an Tile on the Start menu or in the list of all programs. Also check to make sure it is listed under the list of installed programs. It may be part of Office 2016.

Go to Start > Settings > Apps select Default apps and see if Microsoft Excel is listed under Choose default apps by file type. Look down the list for .xls, if it is listed and shows anything other than Excel then change it to Excel.

PS. another thought, when your file opened with Adobe did it display correctly.

The lost of .xls has no option for choosing Excel 2016, however other most .xl files could choose Excel 2016.

And when my older version excel file opened with Adobe, it cannot display correctly.

Any other method can help this issue fix?

You need to be sure Office 2016 is still installed correctly. Go to Settings > Apps and check that Office 2016 is in the list of installed apps. (in Apps and features) Look down the list and look for Office 2016, or possibly Excel 2016 if you have installed
it separately. Select the entry and then modify, use the option to Repair.

As I asked before can you open Excel without opening a file. Go to the Excel icon or tile and open Excel. Or type excel in Search and select the top entry/Desktop app.
