Windows 10: Had a few scan drive error messages and a "Your device ran into a problem and needs to...

Over the past few days, I've noticed that in my taskbar notifications I've had "scan drive error" message come-up a couple of times a day. I've tried repairing and nothing seems to have really happened.This evening, shortly after logging on, I got the " : Your device ran into a problem and has to restart" blue screen, with the stop code MEMORY MANAGEMENT.I should mention I've tried both repairing my C drive and doing a Windows memory diagnostic, which apparently came back all-clear.I'm on Windows 10 if that's of any help, and I should add that this all only started after my laptop seemed to h

To get a clear picture of the issue, we will need the following details:

• When exactly are you receiving the error message?
  
• Have you tried connecting the drive to any other USB port?
  
• Are you able to access the drive on any other computer?
  
• What is the make and model of the computer and the HD drive?
  

In the meantime, I suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned below:



You can scan the drive for errors by following the steps mentioned below and see if that helps:

1. Press Windows key + E, to open
   File Explorer.
   
2. Click on This PC on the left pane.
   
3. Right click on the HD Drive and select
   Properties.
   
4. Click on Tools tab, under
   Error Checking click on Check. This will scan the drive for error and fix them.
   

Note: If any bad sectors are found on the hard drive while Windows try to repair the sectors, data on the sectors might be lost.

Windows giving conflicting message about drive errors

Error message doesn't seem to explicitly say there is a disk error:

The rest of a message (non bold) is probably irrelevant since scanning the disk reported no problems.

What is disk snapshot?
Snapshot (computer storage) - Wikipedia

I suggest you check following services are configured like this (ex. not disabled or stopped):

1. Virtual disk (vds) -> Manual
2. Windows management instrumentation -> Automatic and started
3. Windows management service -> Manual
4. Volume shadow copy -> Manual

I don't know if getting rid of old snapshots could also get rid of this message, but you can test your command that produces this error after starting above services and see how it goes.

Scan drive for errors

I keep getting a notification to scan drive for errors:



It says to "Click to start scan" and it does nothing. I ran Chkdsk /scan as stated in "Event Viewer" and rebooted, but the message does not go away; even after clearing, it comes back.
