I Had to reinstall windows and when I went to install the windows dvd player app it wants me to purchase it although i had already purchased it a few years ago?

Do let us know the following to assist you better with this issue:

• From where are you trying to re-install the Windows DVD player app?
• Have you tried to install the KB update for DVD player app?

I would like to inform that if you perform Reset on your PC, it:

• 
  Reinstalls Windows 10 and keeps your personal files.
  
• 
  Removes apps and drivers you installed.
  
• 
  Removes changes you made to settings.
  
• 
  Removes any apps your PC manufacturer installed. (If your PC came with Windows 10, apps from your PC manufacturer will be reinstalled.)
  

Hence, you will have to install all the updates and apps.

Step 1: I suggest you to install the KB3081704 update for DVD player app if not yet tried and check
if it helps.

Step 2: Also, I suggest you to install all the pending updates after upgrade to Windows 10.

1. Connect to the internet.

2. Press
Windows key and type updates.

3. Click on
Check for updates.

4. Under
Windows Updates, click on Check for updates.

5. Try to install the updates being shown.

windows dvd player app not installing

Could you try uninstalling the app, then reinstall it from your account library?

Open the Windows Store icon on your taskbar

Click the ellipsis in the top right corner of the screen (...)

Click My Library

Scroll through the list then click the Windows DVD Player app if its listed there, then click the download button.

Could you install VLC Player app to check if you are able to play DVD's using that app?

If doesn't help, let us know and we can explore more options.

 

Windows DVD Player installed in Windows 10 but not recognizing DVD to play

The DVD Player app only supports the following:

a. DVDs from a file backup is not supported, the app currently only plays DVD movies on optical discs.

b. The App will only play DVD's not Blu-ray discs.

If you satisfy both the categories, I would suggest you follow the steps below and see if it helps:

Update DVD/CD-ROM drives from Device Manager.

• 
  Press Windows key + R key. Type "devmgmt.msc" and click Enter.
  
• 
  Expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives.
  
• 
  Double-click on the DVD/CD-ROM drive.
  
• 
  In Properties, go to Drivers Tab and click on Update.
  

If this does not work you might have to Uninstall and then reinstall your drivers in compatibility mode.

Follow the steps to uninstall and reinstall the driver.

• 
  Press Windows key + R key. Type "devmgmt.msc" and click Enter.
  
• 
  Expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives.
  
• 
  Double-click on the DVD/CD-ROM drive.
  
• 
  In Properties, go to Drivers Tab and click on Uninstall.
  
• 
  Reinstall your audio driver from Manufacturer's Website in Compatibility mode.
  
• 
  Restart your system
