Windows 10: Had Windows 10 Pro, it has downgraded to Home

Hi guys, first post here so hoping I will garner the answers I'm needing!


I bought Windows 7 Professional several years back circa 2015 when I was building my computer. No worries there. Eventually Windows 10 invited itself in. Okay fine, I can live with that.


Initially it seemed my license was Windows 10 Professional. Upon looking at "This PC" today, it now tells me I have Windows 10 Home. Why has this downgraded itself and can I get it back?


I repeatedly postponed the "Upgrade to Windows 10!" messages. One day I arrived home and my PC was off. I start it up and the boot logo looked a little different. The lock screen didn't seem quite right. It all became clear: I had been Wintendo'd! I kept the Pro that I paid for, although somewhere amongst these automatic updates it seems to have downgraded me. Help?

So you have a software download of Windows 10 Pro with no product key.

Is that correct?

Then you say:

If you already have Windows 7 why download Windows 10 Pro if you don't want to use Windows 10 Pro??

If by some chance you mean that you bought Windows 10 Pro and you want to downgrade it for free to Windows 7 Pro, you can't.

Windows 10 Pro had to be a preinstalled OEM license.

Steps for an end user to downgrade Windows software

Luckily, you can quickly downgrade from Windows 10 Enterprise to Windows 10 Pro by just changing the product key to the one for Pro.

Thanks for your quick response and help, But I was told that if I inserted the Windows 10 Pro product key into the activation section it will be downgraded automatically like the following steps:

1. Open the Settings app and click Update & Security.
2. Open Activation and click Change product key.
3. Enter your Windows 10 Professional product key and click Next.
4. Restart the computer after the new product key is activated.
