  2. Random black screen moving the cursor

    Hi.

    I have a problem I hope someone can help me out with.

    My Asus computer randomly started to get black screen this happens when I for an example sit on facebook and maybe play some game.

    After like 10 minutes a spot on the screen starts to turn black and when I move the cursor around its kinda "painting" the rest of the screen and it will all go black. I can let it stay for hours and it wont come back.

    I have to manually kill the computer by pushing the turn on button for a few seconds.

    Any suggestions ? please

  3. Black Screen No cursor at random times.

    Hello,

    Recently I have been having an issue with my laptop. At random times my screen will turn black, with no cursor (the backlight is still clearly on). I appear to still have full control over my laptop, just nothing being displayed. if I use the keyboard shortcut
    to hibernate, and turn my laptop on again it will be back to normal, but eventually turn black again. I do not know if it is a hardware or software issue, because it seems to happen more frequently when running certain programs (Google Chrome, and Quartus
    II), but also appears to happen when moving my laptop.

    As a few specific examples, it happened when I was using Chrome, and every time I would hibernate and reboot, as soon as it displayed chrome it would black screen. after 5 or 6 attempts at this, I eventually forced a restart, and upon restoring my chrome
    session, it black screened. I forced a restart again, and didn't restore my chrome session, and it didn't black screen. Similar situations have happened several times, but will often go days or even a week without happening. Sometimes it appears to happen
    as soon as I pick up my laptop to move it, but this may just be a coincidence, but has happened a few too many times for me to rule it out as a coincidence.

    It did not start until I had Windows 10 for about a month, and I have clean reinstalled several times. As far as I know, all drivers are up to date.

    My system specs are:

    MSI GS60-003 Ghost (2014)

    Intel I7 4710HQ

    NVIDIA GTX 860M

    Windows 10 Education x64

    If you need any other information, please ask.

    Half a second black screens with cursor at random times

    Updating to 1809 - Black Screen with Cursor Half a second black screens with cursor at random times :(

    Hey!

    I've been trying to Update to my machines to 1809, but with barely any success so far.
    The Issue im facing right now, is that all local accounts (new ones and old ones), face a roughly 90 second black screen after logging in. The cursor is visible in the meantime and I can open the taskmanager in the background for example, but all windows will fail to show until the ~90 seconds have passed. After that, everything is back to normal. While this error occurs on local accounts, domain users are not affected at all, which makes me wonder where the Issue persists from - I would have expected Issues the other way around..

    Things I've tried so far:
    Disable App-Readiness;
    Ensure that explorer.exe is beeing called as the in the registry as well as reneweing that entry as suggest in several posts;
    All of the DISM, CHKDSK, SFC /scannow and so on commands, no changes here.
    Updating from 1709 to 1803 to 1809 instead of 1709 to 1809 (This problem does not exist after updating to 1803);
    The usual Driver and Runtime Stuff, updating them, fully removing them, testing them in different constellations.;
    Disabling Fast-Boot;
    Booting into Secure Mode - Login works fine here;
    Performing a "clean mode" as suggested by Microsoft - Error persists;
    Disabling any Antivirus - No Changes;

    I figured that the Issue does not come from the explorer.exe beeing delayed but the Sihost.exe beeing at fault here - If I execute the sihost.exe (blind since the screen is still black) within the 90 second window that the screen stays black, I can see the screen flicker for half a second, showing the desktop as it should be, before returning into beeing dark. If I execute the Sihost after the 90 seconds, so when things operate normally, the screen will go black again for the 90 seconds it takes. There is not much variation within the black screen times, whole login takes between 92 and 94 seconds (measured several times), starting the sihost after everything works takes exactly 90 seconds - Could it be running in some sort of timeout? Where should I check?

    Anyone else facing this or an similar Issue?
