Half of my RAM is being used just after startup with no external application running.

I know that 3-4 Gb of RAM is used up by Windows for its functioning. But I have a 16Gb 15.7 Gb useable RAM and over 7-8 Gb of it is been used right after startup. And then the RAM skyrockets after I open Chrome or Opera as they use a lot of RAM resulting in the RAM in being over 95% and slower performance. This wasn't a problem earlier when I bought this device Lenovo C940 but after upgrading to Windows 11 dev, my RAM is always way higher than it should be even while idle and no other application being used.I have noticed that "Antimalware Service Executable" and "Desktop Window Manager"

    Half of RAM 'Hardware Reserved'

I have 32GB of RAM installed and half is "hardware reserved" by Windows. I've tried every suggestion I can find, including moving the modules around to different slots. My MB does not have onboard graphics.

    Specs:
    • Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-AX370M-DS3H (BIOS on latest firmware)
    • CPU: Ryzen 7 2700X (upgraded from 1700x and it didn't help)
    • RAM: Corsair VENGEANCE® LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 DRAM 2400MHz C16 Memory Kit
    • GPU: Nvidia RTX-2060 Super

The BIOS, Windows, CPUZ and HWInfo all show 32GB installed and both slots used, but Windows says "Hardware Reserved: 16.1GB".

This was occurring on Windows 10. I am currently running Windows 11 (beta channel) and it didn't help. I also upgraded my CPU from a Ryzen 7 1700 with no change.

Why can't my computer use half of my ram

    Hi Matthew

Most likely Windows has set aside half your RAM as spare memory for your video card, this is normal and should your applications require more RAM, then Windows would dynamically free that RAM up fro use by those applications . . .

    1

Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc)

Choose the Performance Tab and click Memory on the left

Please provide a screenshot of that resulting window

    2

Open Device manager (accessible by right clicking your Start Button)

    Expand the Display Adapters section

What Video device(s) do you see listed there?

RAM Memory half being used by system/unknown application -Windows 10

Hi, the reason why I use Chrome is because it takes less ram memory... yeah I know it's ironic, but it actually takes a lot less memory... I tried Opera, Firefox, Brave, Vivadi, etc and all of them used around 800 MB - 1.5 GB of memory.

    I use "Windows 10 Version 1809 (17763.529)"
I don't know how fast my drive is, but it's not a SSD. It's a HDD.

About Visuals and Effects, it's not a problem... nothing changed.

Windows 10 doesn't use 2 GB... like wtf xD

There isn't any process that runs in startup just Lighshot and Windows Defender.
