    Handwriting on Win 10 Surface doesn't recognise Afrikaans characters


    I have the Afrikaans language pack installed on my Win 10 Surface. It works fine when I set my language to Afrikaans and use handwriting. Except it doesn't recognise when I write special characters like é, ë, ô, ê, etc. I don't have the option either to improve the recognition for Afrikaans - only English is available. Using the Windows character map to insert these characters is jarring and disrupts the handwriting experience. How can I fix this so that the handwriting recognises these characters?

    How to get handwriting recognition to recognise diacritical marks?

    You must install German handwriting recognition.

    Step 1: Install German language from Settings > Time & Language > Language > Add a language:

    Step 2: Select German, unselect Install language pack, select Handwriting:

    For better clarity, please let us know:



    • When you say, “How do I go about to install Afrikaans on my PC” do you wish to install Afrikaans language pack on your computer?


    If you wish to install Afrikaans language pack on your computer, refer the steps mentioned below:



    1. Press Windows + I, to open
      Settings      .
    2. Click on Time & language.
    3. Click on Language and click on
      Add a language      .
    4. Type Afrikaans in the search bar, click on the
      Afrikaans language pack and click on Next.
    5. If you want to make Afrikaans as the Display Language, select the checkbox for
      Display Language and click on Install. Else, just click on
      Install.

    language settings in Windows 10    .
