Windows 10: Hard Disk Drive not showing/appearing.

Hello Community! My laptop has 1 SSD Window is installed in it and 1 HDD For all of the storage. A few days ago, when I turned on my laptop, my HDD didn't appear on This PC. I tried unchecking and rechecking the Sata 1, 2 & 3 from BIOS but nothing works. When unchecked, the laptop won't turn on, a blue screen appears on boot up with an error: Harddisk is not connected. The hard disk D-Drive also not showing in Disk Management. -> I've tried removing the hard disk but the same bluescreen error appeared.Please guide me on how to solve this issue.

If you can't find external hard drive on Disk management than the next step is using the diskpart via command line, please follow the steps below:-

On the keyboard hit ((Windows logo key + R key)) than type ((CMD))

Now the windows command line will appear, the next steps is to type ((diskpart))

After that type ((list disk)) to show you the list of hard disks with partitions

If you found your external hard drive one of the list than you need to type ((select disk number)), note: the number is a disk number

Once you selected the hard disk or partitions than type ((clean))

than type ((create partition primary))

than type ((select partition 1))

than type ((active))

than type ((format fs=ntfs quick))

than type ((assign))

last type ((exit))

Check if the external hard drive appeared, if not please see the link below for more info and let me know if you need any assist

Hard drive shows up in device manager but no in disk management

I could not found my hard drive list disk, only my working ones. I tried following the steps anyway and nothing changed.

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.



This can happen if the Hard-disk drivers are not up-to date. I would suggest you to update the hard disk drivers first. To update the drivers, please follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Open Device manager.
   
2. Then Expand “Disk drives”.
   
3. Then Right click on the Hard-disk listed under this category.
   
4. Then click on Update drivers.
   
5. Alternatively you can also try to update the drivers from manufacturer’s website.
   

Once the hard-disk drivers are updated, you will need to allocate the last partition (it is not allocated according to the screenshot) and you will be able to view the partition.



Also note that sometimes the hard disk partitions/drives might be hidden in This PC or My Computer window due to a Registry key. If a DWORD with the name NoViewOnDrive or NoDrives is present under following key in Registry Editor:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\Explorer

Delete the DWORD and your drives will become visible in My Computer window.
