    Hard Disk Usage 100% in New Laptops


    I bought some laptops recently with configuration of i5 8th Gen/8GB RAM and AMD Rayden 5 graphic card 2GB. Just after the first boot all showed me 100% disk usage with Windows 10.


    The methods I tried to resolve issue:

    1. Disabled Superfetch

    2. Disabled Windows Search

    3. Disabled Windows Update services

    4. Registry Edit for my AHCI drive

    5. Disk cleanup

    6. Uninstalled McAfee and Google chrome as well (Microsoft support team told me to do this as Windows defender is enough as per them)


    But, after doing these all, still the process remains same. If I open any simple app like MS Word, disk usage fluctuates too much. I am surprised to see it's happening with all of my new devices. Even the laptop brands are different.


    So where is the real problem? Why is this happening in all the systems?

    Microsoft support team has asked me to uninstall Google Chrome and McAfee, disk usage will remain 0%.


    I can't understand one thing here, how is this even possible that one of my 8 years old dual core laptop with 3GB ram could handle Chrome on windows 10, with other software like Framemaker. But a new laptop with i5 8thGen/8 GB RAM/2GB Graphics can't even run Google Chrome properly?


    I don't know whom to approach as I am very much frustrated with such bad experience. Can someone help me here?


    PS: I am running the April Build 1803 of Windows 10.

    your hard disk 100% usage. Here's how:

    • Type task manager in the Windows search bar and select the best match.
    • In the Processes tab, look at the disk process to see what is causing your hard disk 100% usage.

    100% disk usage

    The most common cause of 100% disk usage appears to be Superfetch and Prefetch, but there are also other causes. You can try disabling both these features and see if it helps.
