  1. Hard drive no longer boots, cant repair windows, but it recognises a previous installation...

So i suffered a bunch of hardware failures, had to replace motherboard and ram, but the hard drive also appears to have been effected. i put it in a secondary laptop and was able to copy files across as backup.Next i treid to repair via windows media on usb, but it said i could only do a fresh install as i cant enter windows, meaning it will overwrite my filesBut when i went to install it says it recognise there was a previous install of windowsso my question is, is there anything else i can do before doing a fresh install and wiping the drive?i checked in cmd prompt and it says the disk isnt

    :)

  2. Installing windows from usb hard drive

i repair alot of computers and install windows alot. currently i have to carry about a big cd wallet with all my disks but i use a usb hard drive just now for installing windows 7 32 because its soo much faster to install.

now my question is is there a way to put all my windows disks on the one hard drive and boot the iso i select? like a boot manager for iso files? that way i could have all my windows, linux and boot disks all one one drive rather than a load of dvds.

my only other option was a flash drive for each operating system but thats an expensive way to do it.

Hard drive as if wondows is not installed

My pc is acting as if there is no OS even tho it is installed on the hard drive. NO bios setting are funny and nothing was changed, i got a random blue screen and when it restarted it went all funny.

I have tried the windows vista disk and tried to do a fixboot and fixmbr but there is no hard drive when you go to repair. And as such comand prompt is X: becasue it dosnt recognise the file system

It comes up tho when you go to reinstall it says 500gb drive 300gb used, if you search for a driver you can see that every file is there same as before.

The hard drive is fine and NO i am not going to simply reinstall.

How can i repair this. I have it set to just boot from hard drive and boot from boot from cd for second? No funny settings nothing its strange like *Wtf :wtf:

Im on my back up pc btw. Yes i did google first for some help but i couldnt find anything.

EDIT: that should say WINDOWS in the title not WONDOWS argh!
