Windows 10: hard drive not connecting to laptop

I bought a new laptop a few months ago, and I took out my old laptop's hard drive to recover data because the laptop was completely dead and to possibly use as an external hard drive, im trying to connect it to my new laptop with a sata to usb cable but every time i plug it in i get a notification that there's an issue with the driver or something, then it lets me open the drive but then it freezes the laptop, then it just disconnects, or it just loads and loads in the file manager, then disconnects. When it disconnects, I get notifications that there's something wrong and i hear the disconnecting beep but the actual drive is still spinning. Anyone know what's going on?

Overclock your hard drive!!!

Heres a much easier hack that I realized quite a few years ago that really does work!

REQUIREMENTS:

• Hard drive with molex power connection.
• PSU with more than 1 strand that has molex plugs on it.
• Wire strippers, soldering iron if you're fancy, electrical tape if you're not.

STEPS:

• Take the strand of connectors from your PSU, and decide which one will be the donator for this overclocking adventure.
• Cut the yellow and orange cables, then twist them together.
• Find the power connector you've chosen as the overclocking connector, and release the orange cable from the connector. Now use your preferred method to bind them together, then place it back together.
• Plug in a drive and feel the speed!

Congratulations! You've just overclocked your hard drive!

Laptop hard drive upgrade

If you ghost the OS from disk to disk with the same system it should work fine. Thing is you have to GHOST the disk, including the MBR or it won't be bootable. Any other normal laptop drive should work as long as the connections the same.



If you cannot make a backup install CD, you'll likely need to locate a windows install CD, unless you can ghost the drive. Thats pretty much your only options atm.
