Windows 10: Hard drive replacement & key code questions

I have an old computer that I need to replace the hard drive on. It came with windows 8 and was upgraded to windows 10 for free somewhere along the way. I do not have an activation key or any way to access that information on this computer because I can’t get back to the desktop. I was looking at purchasing a new hard drive with windows 10 pre-installed but I don’t know how the activation key works. Will my Microsoft account have that info because when I logged into my account looking for info it didn’t have a key code for this computer. Or do I have a license agreement because windows 10

Replaced hard drive on my laptop and now my product key won't work. It's a 8.0 key. Accidently loaded 10 Pro but followed steps to change it to Home edition through regedit. still does not accept key.
