Windows 10: Hard drive shows more used space than what is being used

Hi, i have a 256GB D: drive, and it shows only 22 GB remaining. However, upon use of windirstat, or simply selecting all the folders from the root and clicking properties. The actual used space is less than what is reported in the drive itself. For example:Going to properties for D: drive reports that there is 215 GB in use.going to the root of D: and selecting all and clicking properties reports that only 96 GB is in use.what happening to the unreported 119 GB?This started happening when i started a download for Forza horizon 5 on the microsoft store, and then canceled the download arou

Using up space on hard drive

Further to Anthony's reply, I didn't upgrade to Windows 10. My new computer - less than 6 weeks old - came with Windows 10 pre installed. And its STILL using up space on the hard drive. Which it shouldn't be doing - I'm not downloading, merely streaming.

I recently bought a new computer which had Windows 10 pre installed. I have noticed that every single time I look at sites such as BBC Iplayer or Channel 4 OD or (particularly worryingly ) run a full system/quick scan of my Norton anti virus software,space
is used up on my hard drive. This never happened with my previous computer which ran on Windows 7.At this rate, I'll run out of disc space within a year. I've tried running disc clean up and the last time I did I ended up with more space used on my hard drive,
rather than the reverse. Has anyone any suggestions as to why this is happening and more importantly, what I can do about it. Nick

 

Hard Drive Used and Free space

Something seems not right with what I see when looking at the properties for my Hard Drive. There is suppose to be 160 GB on the drive but I only am seeing about 139 GB which 107 GB is free space and about 32 GB used. The storage in system information shows
the Drives information at about 139 GB but the Disks information shows more at about 149 GB. I think the difference is the amount for partitions but still does not add up to the 160 GB. This information can be found in by going to Programs/Accessories/System
Tools so you know what I am looking at. I recently added a Standard User account and maybe this is not showing up as used space being accounted for? So I have an Account with Administrator privileges and the Standard user account. There is also the Administrator
account which is hidden by default. So where is the other Disk space that I do not seem to see?

What I am wondering is there something wrong with the Hard Drive through a loss of data or something?
