  1. Hard drive space disappeared after cloning

My 500 GB hard drive space kept shrinking so I installed a 1t ssd m2 Western Digital and used Acronis to do a clone. On the 'old' hard drive the space used was around 453g. After the clone to the new 1t ssd I had the same thing..453g. I extended the partition on the 'new' ssd to include the whole 1t and all of a sudden the 'new' ssd was full and now I'm getting lots of odd things like...windows not activated and then 10 min's later it is..and I didn't do a thing. Programs that ran just fine before will hang while loading or it will load and then just disappear. Nothing else has changed yet hardware wise other than the new ssd. LIke to get this issue resolved before a pending rebuild new motherboard, cpu, gpu. Rebuilds are hard enough without this issue hanging there like a sword over my head. Thanks

current config: 270sli plus, 16g dddr4 3000 memory, geforce gtx 1050ti gpu, Western Digital 1t ssd, Samsung 500g ssd

    :)

    Free hard drive backup/restore program?

I am looking for a free (freeware) program that will back up and restore a hard drive. I'm looking to clone a few external hard drives. If the program will backup the used space instead of the whole drive this will be awesome! Thanks for any suggestions.

  4. Hard drive space disappeared after cloning

Cloning from 1TB to 2TB hard drive

Hello, Migrating a 1TB Hard Drive to a 2TB HDD is very possible.

My Rig started out on just 160GB, when I upgraded HDDs, I cloned my 160 GB into a newly bought 500GB HDD. (it was an OS HDD)

Then on the next HDD upgrade(I bought a 1 TB) I cloned that 500GB to a 1 TB HDD.

    No problems at all.

From what I can remember the program I used was Acronis?? I forgot. But it ran the cloning process outside of windows. the cloning took like 30 to 1 hr. then I switched drive letters and the newly bought HDD is now my boot device.
