Windows 10: Hard drive wont show up

Hello, I have recently got a new computer and I wanted to take the old 1TB drive from my old computer and hook it up to my new computer. Unfortunately, this task has proven to be way harder than I’ve thought. I’ve gone to disk manager and tried to format the hard drive there but the 1TB drive is no where to be seen. I’ve even tried assigning a different drive letter to it and to no avail. Nothing is working and every time something shows up (say in device manager) it says that there is no media in the drive (and there is because we put it right back into the old computer and it shows all of my old files) I’m just really confused and frustrated at the moment. There is nothing wrong with the usb plugs either as I plugged in another hard drive I have and it showed up immediately with no issues.

Hard Drive not Showing

• How are you connecting the Hard drive to your computer?
• Have you tried connecting the hard drive to a different computer and check if it works?

It's possible that your USB drivers are corrupt. I suggest you to try the following steps and check.

• Press Windows Key +R and type
  devmgmt.msc to open Device manager.
• Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers
  at the left bottom.
• Right-click the first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then click on
  Uninstall to remove it.
• Repeat these steps for the entire USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
• Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.

External Hard Drive

Hi John,

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

Overclock your hard drive!!!

Heres a much easier hack that I realized quite a few years ago that really does work!

REQUIREMENTS:

• Hard drive with molex power connection.
• PSU with more than 1 strand that has molex plugs on it.
• Wire strippers, soldering iron if you're fancy, electrical tape if you're not.

STEPS:

• Take the strand of connectors from your PSU, and decide which one will be the donator for this overclocking adventure.
• Cut the yellow and orange cables, then twist them together.
• Find the power connector you've chosen as the overclocking connector, and release the orange cable from the connector. Now use your preferred method to bind them together, then place it back together.
• Plug in a drive and feel the speed!

Congratulations! You've just overclocked your hard drive!
