Windows 10: hardware change and formated drive cant activate windows

I got the free upgrade from windows 7 official copy to windows 10 ages ago. As a gift I recieved new hardware. I copied the product code from my computer which i thought would be the windows 10 product code and then installed a new motherboard and installed windows on a new drive from a windows 10 iso disc. Everything went fine but windows will not except my product code I got off my computer before the hardware change when i try to activate. any help please.

Run CMD


1. diskpart
2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

2. select disk #
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.

Unable to activate Windows after hardware change

Usually the error code 0xC004F213 comes when there is a hardware change done on the computer (like Motherboard or Hard drive). The Windows license is associated with the device hardware. If there is any significant hardware changes, such as replacing
motherboard or hard drive, Windows won’t be able to recognize the license.

I suggest you to try the troubleshooting steps from the article
Reactivating Windows 10 after a hardware change and see if Windows gets activated.

If you are using an OEM computer that came with Windows 7, and the motherboard has not been changed, then you can follow the steps to retrieve the product key that came with your OEM computer. To retrieve the product key follow the steps mentioned
below:

1. Type Command prompt in the search bar, that is on the taskbar.
   
2. Right click on Command prompt icon and select Run as administrator.
   
3. Type the command and press on Enter: wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey
   
4. You will find the product key.

Windows 10 Hardware change

A clean install? We're talking about a clean install not the upgrade

Dave is saying to do the upgrade. Pull the drive. Install the new hardware. Replace the drive and run it till its activated. Then format and do a clean install. Then it should activate fine

I don't think it will activate after you change the hardware. But maybe MS has loosened the activations for now
