Windows 10: Has anybody tried out the new bash already

I'm curious, has anybody already plaid with the new Linux subsystem (bash)? I don't know about you but I love it. Finally I can use the powerful commands of Linux to create folders, files etc. For me that alone is worth the update.

Bash keeps on closing while installing Ubuntu on windows 10. New Feature in Anniversary edition

Hi,

This question is very new and I am pretty sure no one has asked it already. The question is in regarding to the new Feature released in August Update of Anniversary Edition of Bash, Ubuntu Linux support in Windows 10.

I installed updates yesterday successfully and also have Developer Mode on in Windows 10. I turned on Windows Subsystem for Linux in "Turn Windows Features on and OFF" and successfully ran BASH.

The problem arises then. bash needs to install Ubuntu on Windows and it says Downloading from Windows market. I have tried it more than 10 times and everytime The Bash Window keeps on closing down. Firewall is not blocking it and I am pretty sure no other
application can close it.

One of those times, it had almost finished the downloading, but the Bash was closed at 80 %. This is quite frustrating as I have downloaded it many times to more than 50%, it just never finishes. Sometimes it gets stuck at 0% or less than 10% or some random
value.

Help would be appreciated.

Bash shell cant be started as an error appears. Which I have discussed before but with no solution.

I have tried

1. full uninstall and install of lxrun

2. creating a new user id in windows login and tried after installing bash there.

there is no issue I confirm regarding read/write permission of system.

The same problem I faced once more and I get rid of it only after full system update.

I once again request microsoft to take this bug seriously and make a way to get out of it.

I've installed it on the desktop and it is working. So I installed it on my laptop and it lets me enter a password. But when I try to sudo it asks for the password and gives me Sorry, try again.

After a clean install I encountered that error tool. In my case there was apparently no root password set. I set it with "sudo passwd root" which let's you set a new password for root. Now it works. But what has never worked so far is network access. I just cannot get internet access.

 

I've fixed network access for the bash. Apparently the firewall was blocking the outgoing connections over ports 53 and 80. Allowing "System process" outgoing connections over these ports has fixed it.
