  1. Has someone changed File Explorer and OneDrive to prevent me from having narrow columns

I thought this was a OneDrive issue and posted a question there, but now I discover that it also affects File Explorer. I have long had File Explorer set up a very specific way with the columns I want and have the columns sized to "just wide enough." I rely extensively on the preview pane, and I want it as big as possible. Now, both File Explorer and OneDrive have an enforced minimum width of 210 pixels. Really obnoxious for date and size columns.

I know it can allow me to size columns however I want because it did. I have to assume that this "feature" was packed in some "update." Which of course makes me ask why? My online search shows some people having similar issues, but no solutions.

This is the kind of thing that makes people hate Microsoft.

    :)

  2. I have added the file count column to my folder in File Explorer. However, the actual file count is not displaying.

    Hi Loren,

I appreciate if you could answer a
few questions to narrow down the issue and to provide you better assistance.

    • How did you added file count column for folders in File Explorer? What are the steps did you followed?
    • When you say, "actual file count is not displaying" is this issue specific to any folder or happening with all folders?
    • Have you installed any third party anti-virus on your system?
Meanwhile, I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if this helps.

    • Open File Explorer.
    • Click on View from navigation pane and choose Detail pane.
Write to us with the above information and status of the issue to assist you further.

    Thank You.

  3. With the Windows File Explorer, is there any way of changing the default display window column widths?

With the Windows File Explorer, is there any way of changing the default display window column widths?

I have some files with very long names, and I always want to see the file extensions as well as the names. In the default Windows File Explorer, the first column listing the names of the files is too narrow for some of my file names with extensions. I
can drag the right margin of the first column to the right and fix that, but the next time I open File Explorer, I have to do it again. I would like to set the column widths and have that be the default thereafter.

How can I prevent the extra columns of details from appearing in File Explorer?: I'm not exactly sure what they're called.
