Windows 10: Has the OneDrive issue with the folder showing up as an internet shortcut been resolved?

I see several posts that are months old, dating back to June of last year. I've been using OneDrive since 2019, and this issue just happened to me yesterday. I can hardly function this way. I have two clients that use OneDrive, at the moment it is only affecting one. I unlinked and re-downloaded and nothing has changed. The folder I need is not even showing up in the "choose folders" anymore. I cannot afford to continually have to download, send, upload, save, etc. again and again on files. Please tell me this has been resolved.

This behavior is different between shortcuts on OneDrive and local disks because OneDrive uses a different thumbnail caching mechanism than the local disk. For me to have a better view of your concern, I'd like to confirm few details:

• Is it only specific to this .JPG files?
  
• Are the files locally saved also on your OneDrive folder?
  

To force shortcuts to image files on OneDrive to show thumbnails, you can try the following steps:



1. Right-click on the OneDrive folder where the image file and shortcut are located.

2. Select "Properties" from the context menu.

3. Click on the "Disk Cleanup" button under the "General" tab.

4. Check the box next to "Thumbnails" and click "OK".

5. Wait for the cleanup process to complete.

6. Open the OneDrive folder and check if the thumbnail for the shortcut is now displaying the image.



If the above steps do not work, you can try check if the display file icon is turned on:

1. Open File Explorer and click the View tab.

2. Click on the Options, under the Folder Options, go to the View tab.

3. Uncheck the Always show icons, never thumbnails.

4. Tick the Display file icon on thumbnails.

Here also things you can check:

• If you're using a PC/Mac, ensure your computer's File Explorer/Finder view is set to medium-sized icons (or larger
  
• If File Explorer/Finder thumbnails still don't show, enable "Always keep on this device" for the file.

Image Shortcuts in OneDrive not displaying image

The issue is that when for instance test.jpg exists in a OneDrive folder, and a shortcut in this OneDrive folder is created that points to test.jpg, then the shortcut doesn't show a thumbnail (so no small image of test.jpg appears in the shortcut). This assumes that "View/Extra Large Icons" has been selected.

When doing the same using a local folder, then the shortcut shows the thumbnail which works as expected.

Is there a Windows setting that can force shortcuts to image files in OneDrive folders, to show the image as thumbnail?
