Windows 10: Have 1 file not synced between hard drive and OneDrive

Have a media file that I want to keep on the cloud on OneDrive but not synced to my hard drive to save space on my hard drive, and still have my other files automatically synced between the cloud and hard drive, how can I do this?

Recent shortcuts for apps show files on OneDrive instead of local hard drive

I was able to follow the steps and uncheck the "Use Office apps to sync" box but it didn't change Office's behavior. I opened and closed an Excel spreadsheet on my local hard drive. After that, when I right-clicked on the Excel icon pinned to the taskbar, a link to the OneDrive cloud file was in the list of recent files instead of a link to the file on my hard drive.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Accidentally activated OneDrive - would like to restore all files back to my hard drive and delete/deactivate OneDrive

Yes, they are still in their folders on the local drive - Desktop, Documents, Music, Pictures, Video.

I'm mainly concerned with the files on Desktop and Documents. I can put these copied files on an external hard drive or USB drive and then do what you suggested above.

My only question is, I currently have "Sync and back up" turned off for all folders. Should I turn this back on and sync after copying externally and before proceeding with your steps? Or just download everything as it is from OneDrive without trying to Sync again?

Once I move all of these files that I "copied" to an external drive, my desktop and documents folders on the local disk will be appear empty. So, if I sync again, what files is OneDrive now syncing?

 

OneDrive sync removing files stored on my hard drive

I transferred my pictures from OneDrive to my hard drive and turned off the OneDrive because working in OneDrive is excruciatingly slow. I edit and RENAME photos in multiple files. Decided I should sync my photos with OneDrive to store them in the cloud, so switch it one and onedrive replaces my entire "Photos" folder with a shortcut link to OneDrive pictures and none of my RENAMED pictures can be found, and my HARD DRIVE files are nowhere to be found. How can I retrieve them. They are NOT in my hard drive or OneDrive recycle bins. Why would OneDrive "vanish' files with different names from anything on the drive from my hard drive and can I get them back?
