    New Compute, Windows 10 (upgrade) Activation Transfer

    It depends on how Windows 10 was originally configured on your computer.

    If its a full retail store bought license online or offline, it is transferable to a new computer or motherboard.

    If its the free upgrade from a retail store bought Windows 7 or Windows 8 license, it is transferable to a new computer or motherboard.

    If its the free upgrade from a OEM preinstalled Windows 7 or Windows 8 license, it is NOT transferable to a new computer or motherboard.

    Transfer Windows 7 to a new computer

    There are two requirements you need to check before you transfer 7 to a new computer.

    The manufacturer of the new computer has to support 7 and supply Windows 7 drivers for your exact new computer model number.

    If they don't supply Windows 7 drivers for it, 7 won't install and work correctly.

    You do not tell us what type of License you have.

    If the old Laptop/Computer came with the Windows Operating System preinstalled (Dell, HP, Acer, etc) , that Product Key that came with the Laptop/Computer is for the preinstalled OEM License and is non-transferable.

    The OEM License/Product Key (preinstalled Operating Systems on Dell, HP, etc machines) is tied to the first machine it is installed on and dies when that machine dies.

    The above rule also applies to OEM System Builders Licenses.

    Retail Operating System License, that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

    But Retail Licenses can also only be installed on one machine at any particular time.
