Have Microsoft taken control of all of our Computers ?

Have Microsoft taken control of all of our Computers ?
I have tried this, and I have tried that, yet Microsoft seem determined to make it impossible for me to stop their downloads. I have tried using the various settings in W10 Pro Aniversary, at least I think that I have found all of them, because it seems that with so many options etc, Microsoft have made it all into a bit of a treasure hunt/paper chase.
    Why ?

I have tried stopping downloads via my hosts file but a new address seems to start doing the downloading ?

Another thing that I have tried is a programme called GlassWire. This does not seem to be living up to expectations, but I have only recently purchased it at £106 inc UK TAX.

I have scanned with Windows Defender and Malwarebytes, so as far as I know there is nothing in the background opening any doors.

My internet connection is by a 3G Dongle. I can connect and disconnect a number of times a day, and each time I connect I am unable to stop a download of between 13MB and 60MB.
More than half a GB a day, downloading who knows what, is not unusual.

At the time of writing this post, Mr Teddy is sitting in the corner where I threw him, upside down with no arms or legs.
Please help, before Mr Teddy gets his head pulled off !

    :)

  2. Wonderlandads.com Have Taken Control of My IE 11

Would it make sense to just uninstall lE11 from my computer and then reinstall.....since that is the item giving me the problem....? Do I really need IE 11 anyway?

I was able to run TDSS Killer, RKill, Malwarebytes Anti Malware and Hitman....in the normal mode and they did not fix the problem. Zemana was the only one that would not run even though it installed.

Please click Edit and delete those two links you posted. All they will do for anyone that tries them is to get their own malware.

Hi, with Mr Teddy at risk of being further 'updated', I understand you to want to stop MS updates.

I won't comment on the downside of doing so except to point out that if you use Defender, this will stop updates for that too. You can make separate provision for that by creating your own scheduled task.

Here are some ways of stopping updates - note that there are other types of updates besides Windows updates.

Windows Update - Enable or Disable Check for Updates in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
Driver Updates in Windows Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
Store Update Apps Automatically - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

You might also like to look at Winaero's Tweaker; there are a couple of relevant options there, which may well overlap with the above.

Note setting connections (ethernet and Wifi) as metered is said to work.
You can also configure updates to 'Notify only'.

I'm guessing your 3G connection has a capped data limit. 3G connections should by default be set as a Metered Connection which will stop updates downloading automatically, you should be asked for permission first. Apparently some 3G drivers may not identify themselves to windows as being 3G, but as a dial up connection. If you can't find a 'Metered' on/off toggle for yours in the Settings, then the registry fix here for setting Ethernet as metered may help (perhaps by setting Default as metered?).

    Fred,

There is a guide at Manage data usage and Windows updates in Windows 10 - WiKi

This article covers Windows update and the other components that might well be using up your data allowance such as Feedback & diagnostics and App data comms & updates [updates which can continue even with a metered connection unless you use a local user account instead of an online one].

The article is being updated by about 10th Nov to include schemes for running automatic [no user intervention needed] updates on demand or on a schedule chosen by the user - despite the metered setting.

I must apologize for not thanking you all earlier but my situation has gone from bad to worse. I now find that I am having internet connection problems on my main PC. I run two, one with W10 Pro and another with W10 Home. The main PC is the one with the problems. However Mr Teddy sends his thanks. This is because for the time being I have decided to leave Mr Teddy's header connection at it's default setting
    [Enabled]
I am going to speak to my ISP again as I am able to get my internet connection on my backup PC, but not on my main one.
