Windows 10: Have OneDrive open files online by default

Does anybody know if there is a way to open Office files online by default? I know I can right click an Office file in my OneDrive folder and click "View Online", but I would like to be able to do that without the need to right click so I can use PowerToys Run to open the files and skip a bunch of steps. It seemed not possible from Google, but maybe someone has a workaround/Chrome extension that does the job.

Search opens local files in OneDrive folder only in browser

Hi Elias,

To resolve your concern regarding opening local files on OneDrive, follow the steps below:

• Go to
  OneDrive.com.
• Right click on the file that you want to view.
• Click on Download.
• The file will be downloaded, and would normally show up on the bottom part of your browser.
• Click the file, and it would open up using its normal default application.

Change How Folders Open By Default (My laptop keeps using CMD)

Sorry for the delayed response. I suggest you to set File Explorer as the Default program and check if that helps. To do this, refer the steps given below.

• Open Control Panel.
• Search for Default Programs.
• Go to Default Programs.
• Look for File Explorer towards the left pane and select it.
• Set this as default program and apply changes.
• Check if the issue persists.

I understand that you would like to change the backup settings for your OneDrive from the default settings.

During Windows 10 setup, you should have seen a “Back up your files with OneDrive” screen telling you about the benefits of saving your files to OneDrive. If you clicked Next, you set up OneDrive as your default save location.
