Windows 10: Have to Repeat Setting up default apps for various file extensions

I have to repeat setting up default apps for various file extensions as they get removed for some reason without my intervention.For example: my .html / .jpg extension among many others suddenly don't show their familiar icon. I have to once again point them out to their respective programs.Could anyone help me with a fix to this?

Which app are you trying to set for .res extension?

Please try to check the app you are trying to set. Is it feasible with .res extension?

I suggest performing the steps below and check if it fixes the problem.

Go to Setting - Apps - Click on Default apps - Click on Choose default apps by file type.

On the left, search for .res extension

Across .res extension, tap on Choose a default

Try browsing for the app.

You may follow the steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

1. Go to Setting >
   Apps.
   
2. Click on Default apps.
   
3. Click on Choose default apps by file type.
   
4. Look for .res extension on the left pane.
   
5. Across .res extension, click on
   Choose a default.
   
6. Try browsing for the app.

How to set default app for file type jpg

I would like to change the default app for the file type jpg. I've gone through all the steps for setting a default app but the jpg file extension does not appear in the list and therefore I cannot choose a default.

When I Open a jpg file it opens in the Photo app. If I look at the Photo app's settings of default file types, jpg is not there.

Ditto for file type png.

How can I access the default setting for these and other "hidden" types?
