Windows 10: Having issue with device malfunction in printer is not detected

Hello I want to print some documents however my printer is not working. It's not detected by my PC, what to do to make it work?

Hope somebody can help a non-techy here.
I have a canon IX4000 printer, and had been using it without problem. The next day (having touched nothing), I got a USB device not recognized warning, and that it has a malfunction (this is under Windows XP).

I've tried the following:
- deinstalling all USB drivers under device manager
- system restore to several days prior, when I knew the printer was working
- trying a different USB lead (tested the lead on another device, so know it works)
- plugged lead into every other available USB port on the computer (front and back).
- tried plugging it into another computer (comes up with the same malfunction warning)
- deinstalled the printer drivers, downloaded and reinstalled them.

Nothing I've tried works. I know the printer functions as I can start it up under service mode and print off test pages without problems, but my computer just won't have it. Could it be a hardware failure, and if not is there anything else I can try that isn't listed above?

Printer Malfunction

An outdated device driver may be causing this issue with your printer. In order for us to effectively assist you with your concern, we just have a few questions for you:

• Were there any changes made to your computer prior to the issue?
• Have you tried updating your device drivers?
• What specific problem are you experiencing with the problem aside from it is being detected as turned off?

printer is detected as other devices instead of a printer

I have windows 10 build 1607 and I'm trying to make my printer work under it.

My printer model is hp laserjet 1300 series and its driver is installed, I can see it in device manager under two categories: one under USB as Dot4USB and other as IEEE printer.

But under "Devices and Printers" it's still detected as other devices, I tried all sort of things without luck.

When I click "Add a printer" windows doesn't detect it, when I reach the dialog where I select a printer from a list of models I can't see my model in there and I don't have its CD.

I tried plugging it into different USB ports without success.

So what should I do ?
