    Having issues with a windows 10 disk failure/error


    I'm experiencing an odd drive failure - my start menu will not open, the search function in file explorer is not working, and some of my files photos will not open, when I try to open them it throws the following error: file system error -2018374635I have tried restarting windows explorer through task managerI have also tried to use CHKDSK to check and repair the disk, but CHKDSK says there are no issues with the diskWhen I scan the disk through the properties menu in file explorer it does detect errors.Any thoughts on this?Thanks in advance!

    I have tried restarting windows explorer through task manager

    I have also tried to use CHKDSK to check and repair the disk, but CHKDSK says there are no issues with the disk

    When I scan the disk through the properties menu in file explorer it does detect errors.

    Any thoughts on this?

  3. Disk Issues/ Error 0x80070017

    Hi Nathan,

    Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

    I understand your inconvenience. We will assist you to resolve this issue.

    A quick question before we proceed:

    What is the exact error code that you receive? Is it 0x80070017 or 0x80070012?

    This issue may occur if there is a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) failure during the update process. This failure may occur if the received file is not the file that is expected by Windows Update

    I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it help:

    Method 1:

    I suggest you to run the Chkdsk.exe tool to check the disk for errors. Follow the steps below for the same:


    • Press Windows key+ R

    • Type chkdsk C: press Enter

    Method 2:

    You may also rename the Windows Update components folder and verify the result.

    a) Press "Windows key + X" and click "Command Prompt (Admin)".

    b) Type "net stop wuauserv" and press enter.

    c) Type "rename c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old" and press enter.

    d) Type "net start wuauserv"and press enter.
