Having problems creating a Mirrored Volume

I’m trying to make two disk drives, H Disk 4 and G Disk 5, into a mirrored volume. The two drives are both Seagate 5 TB drives. They have been previously used, then wiped clean of all previous data. They are shown in Disk Management as Basic, 4657.40 GB, and Online. Each is formatted as NTFS and shown as Healthy Basic Data Partition. Here's what I see in Disk Management: When I right click on Disk 4, I get a popup window with a few options, but the only significant option is Convert to Dynamic Disk. New Mirrored Volume is greyed o

  2. Create a Mirroring for existing volume(say F: drive)

Create a Mirroring for existing volume(say F: drive) using powershell storagespace and after completion of mirroring remove the initial disk that was used by F drive(i.e remove mirroring)

I have tried with diskpart and Disk Management Tool, these are interactive tools. i wanted to do it with simple commands in powershell

  3. Disk mirror failed redundancy: Remove mirror or reactivate volume?

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

The cause for Failed Redundancy would be that half, but not both halves, of a mirrored volume was imported. In Disk Management, the imported half of the mirrored volume receives Failed Redundancy status, while the disk that holds the
half of the mirror that was not imported receives Missing status. You can import the Missing disk at a later time to restore redundancy.

The solution for Failed Redundancy is to move all disks that span this volume to the new computer at the same time, and then import all of the disks together.

The complete solution is giving in the section A mirrored volume's status is Data Not Redundant from
    Troubleshooting Disk Management.

You may also refer the section A dynamic disk's status is Offline or Missing from the above article and try the troubleshooting steps.

If you are still facing any issues related to Mirroring, then I suggest you to post your query in
IT Pro TechNet forums, where we have support professionals who are well equipped with the knowledge on Hard Disk Mirroring.

    Hope it helps.

  4. Having problems creating a Mirrored Volume

    Mirrored Partition

Hi ABC. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

How are you planning to mirror a partition? Normally mirroring is for an entire drive, like RAID1 mirrors. However I don't recommend it because I've seen too many lost files when one drive dies and the files are lost. You're better off with real time backup to the cloud along with periodic backup imaging using an app like free Macrium Reflect.

However if you still want to mirror a volume, I'd for sure have another backup method in case you lose both drives. Mirroring means exactly what it says, it exactly mirrors the changes you make on one drive to the other. Here is how to mirror a volume in Windows 10:

Report back results for each step so I know what else to suggest.

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.
