Windows 10: Having serious difficulty getting disk managment to get my external hdd drive to read in...

i have an external hdd and a usb stick they are online on disk managment as drive 5 and 6, but not showing in file explorer a;; hidden files ticked.i have tried to assign letters or formats . when i try to format i get unexpected error ocurred check system log for more informationsystem log is as follow"The time provider 'VMICTimeProvider' has indicated that the current hardware and operating environment is not supported and has stopped. External Hard Drive Only Reads as "Local Disk"

Hello,

I was able to fix one of my hard drives with a simple step, hopefully, I can fix another!

I have a WD Easystore HDD that has a lot of good graphic design material I can't lose. However, when I plug it in, the File Folder freezes up, and Disk Management hasn't loaded up all the way either. Normally with Disk Management, you see a list of drives to
work on. It currently still says "Connecting to Virtual Disk Service."

When I click on the drive I want to access, it takes a long time to load, as if it doesn't want to, and File Folder freezes. What can I do to repair this? Or is my External HDD permanently damaged?

 

Slow HDD read and write speeds

We will require a few more information from you to help you further with the issue. Please reply with the following details:

• In which device are you facing this issue?
  
• Are you using an external HDD or internal HDD?
  
• Are you getting the read and write speed issue on any particular application?
  

However, you can Disk Defragment on your computer to optimize the drive. To run Disk Defragment please follow the steps from the article

Defragment your Windows 10 PC.

Alternatively, you can check for the read and write speed of the HDD in task manager. Please follow the steps mentioned below to check the read and write speed of the hard drive:

1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc key together on the keyboard.
   
2. Click on Performance tab.
   
3. Click on Disk 0.
   
4. You will find the Read speed and
   Write speed at the bottom of the window.

Help with external hard drive

I appreciate your interest in windows 10 and also for trying the troubleshooting steps to fix the issue. I understand the inconvenience you faced. I will certainly help you with this.

I would suggest you to plug in hard drive then check in disk management you can see the drive or not.

Follow the steps to check Drive in Disk Management.

• 
  Go to the Control Panel then click on the
  Administrative Tools. .
  
• 
  Under the Administrative Tool Click on Computer Management.
  
• 
  Click on Disk Management and check the External Hard Drive.
  

Also check in BIOS whether External Hard Drive is listed or not.

For help with the BIOS settings, refer to the computer manual or contact the manufacturer.

If it doesn’t work then, I would suggest you to update BIOS for updating BIOS contact Lenovo Support.
