Having trouble connecting to many web sites - see messages received.

Using Windows 10 Pro 64 bit (see my profile).

Windows Defender, Malwarebytes, Kaspersky Internet Protection (installed long after getting this problem).

Some sites come up as a blank page (no response at all). Other sites have these messages (not all inclusive) most in the bottom left side of the browser window (Chrome and Edge - and only on MY computer, not on iPad or my Smartphone) while waiting for a page to show content. I have a brand new modem, brand new router and a brand new wi-fi card on my Dell M6800 workstation.

    sfc /scannow is fine.

    ======================================================================================

This page isn't working, www nbc.com didn't send any data, ERR.EMPTY.RESPONSE

The server timed out while waiting......

    This site cannot be reached.

    Waiting for fonts.googleapis.com.........

    pagead2.googlesyndication.com..........

    Establishing secure connection

    ajax.googleapis.com

    http://www.googletagservices.com

Could someone please help or point me in the right direction.

    :)

3 Follow the instructions on the phone to download and install the software

4 Enter the email address and password of your Nokia Messaging account to log in and start using the service.

    Hi Nisko.

Ideally only one of your AV products will be doing real time monitoring. Please adjust and see if this helps. For testing purposes I would disable Malwarebytes. Love the product just not as confident with version 3 as I use to be.

The next thing I would run are some resets.

Run the following four bolded commands. Use a Command Prompt(admin) or powershell(admin)

Do not key in info in brackets, there for your information.

ipconfig /flushdns (Clear the dns cache)
nbtstat -RR (release and refesh NetBIOS names)
netsh int ip reset (reset ip settings)
netsh winsock reset (Reset Winsock Catalog)

You might also run a network reset. This will "Forget" all wireless networks so you need to know passwords.

Start => Settings => Network and internet => scroll to bottom of right hand side. Reset, restart computer, test. (with one AV doing real time. )

Thank you!! What do you mean by testing with one AV doing real time?

  6. Virus scanners can be in real time mode which mean they scan files as you download them, check web sites, check exe, etc.

If two of them are both doing this job it can, and I say can, cause issues.

Make one AV the boss and then call on the other, like Malwarebytes when you need a second set of eyes.

Thank you for the advice. I'll do it right now. Also, so far, it appears that what you had me do (starting with clearing the dns cache) is working. I'll have to continue testing for the rest of the day. If you don't mind and have the time, would you please explain what happens with each of the five commands you had me perform and why it seems to have corrected the problem? I'd like to learn something. Thank you...........

You will have to search that info but basically they are resets. Junks collects, names change, addresses move and corruption occurs.

Just like Crtl - Alt - Del you are starting fresh.

I don't know what causes the individual situations to become "Cranky" (not a very technical term) but they do and I run those commands when I help clients with strange network issues. They don't always work.\

    Here is one of them.

Thank you again, Ken! I'll document those commands. Yesterday, everything worked fine. However, this morning, I checked into this forum. The screen flashed for a fraction of a second "This site cannot be reached." But very quickly, the site came up. Just FYI. I'll run those commands again and look into the one you posted above. Thank you.

  10. Hi Nisko.

I wouldn't run all of them. You need to isolate issue. So I would start with DNS flush. If this fixes things you might want to force the usage of a new DNS rather than your suppliers.

Change DNS Server Address on Windows 10 PC

If it is not DNS, then with the power of the forum I hope we can find solution to culprit.

A couple of things I've noticed, one is that Windows Defender should be/has been turned off when installing third-part AV program and in Control Panel, Internet Options, Connections tab, LAN Settings be sure only the first item is checked about "Automatically detect settings". Also, unless needed for something else, be sure there is no Proxy set up, that can be done by infections without the User knowing.

It sometimes helps to check the Security tab and choose Reset to default.
