Windows 10: Having troubles updating Windows 10

Just a few days ago, I started to encounter the error message "kernel32.dll is missing" whenever I try to open any applications well most of them at least on my comp. I tried to run sfc/ scannow and also diSM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth but it just doesn't work. When I run diSM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth it gets stuck at 100%, whereas for scannow I will just get a line saying that Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation. I have also tried resetting my comp but it will just end up undoing the changes, saying I cant perform a reset. I reckon it's because I have not updated my windows for a looooong time oops. I'm stuck at ver 1903 yikes. So right now I'm trying to run Windows Updates, but after running it for ages, the outcome says that this:

Windows 10 fails to update


When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.

 

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
