    HDD appears to be locked by a Process


    I have an Acer ES 15 running Windows 10 64 bit.

    I was carrying out maintenance of cleaning up the disk to be followed by optimisation.

    I cleaned up the system files, it was over 4Gb because there were windows updates, I then selected delete and it appeared to be taking a very long time to complete. I had to leave the laptop and unfortunately forgot to plug in the power.

    I now have the following problem.

    Windows appears to start normally and allows me to log in.

    However it is obvious that the hdd light which normally flickers is on steadily.

    After I have the desktop I can open programs but they will not run.

    I cannot close down or restart.

    I opened a command prompt to carry out chkdsk.

    The prompt showed windows - user - my name - I am the only user.

    I tried chkdsk and got the following message.

    "Access denied as you do not have sufficient privileges or the disk may be locked by another process.

    You have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode and make sure the disk is unlocked".

    I have to turn off using the power button.

    Can anyone help please?

    It is possible that your
    HDD was unreadable
    causing the error message to appear. We recommend that you perform these troubleshooting steps and check if there are any changes:


    • Shutdown
      your
      PC.

    • Unhooked
      the
      HDD
      and
      turn on
      your
      PC.

    • Reconnect
      your
      HDD
      and
      restart
      your
      PC.

    If the issue persists, we suggest that you contact your
    laptop/computer's manufacturer
    for further assistance.

    Update us on how it goes.
