Windows 10: HDD disk usage spikes to 100% and doesnt allow me to use any app, even file explorer

I’ve searched it online and even though there are many people having the same issue, I wasnt able to find any real solutions.

Windows is downloaded on my C: drive which is an SSD and programs work perfectly fine when i download them to C: drive. But if i download a game or a program to D: drive, whenever i try using that program downloded on my HDD task manager says drive usage is at 100% and the program freezes. I can only temporarily fix it by restarting the pc. I tried replacing the hard drive with a new one but the problem persists. I’d be happy if anyone knows what could be the cause of this issue.

HDD Disk Usage Suddenly Goes Up to 100 and Comes Back

Actually, the Processes Tab doesn't show the exact Disk Usage, it's usually 10% (When Freezes) . Only the Performance Tab shows 100%.

Also, the top 5 processes depends on what file I'm opening. For Movies, the Movies&TV app goes first with 1.5 Mb/s disk usage at most.

 

100% Disk usage spike on Windows 10

Recently I have experienced that when running most applications (especially gaming) my Laptop would have a disk usage spike to 99% or 100%. when I check the task manager there is no specific program using the disk, its just at 100% usually forcing me to
do a hard restart. baring in mind that when I run the programs the usually run smoothly and very randomly the disk usage spikes. this has only been happening since downloading windows 10. I have read many threads and applied many fixes such as disabling SuperFetch,
BIT service and windows update. I have also disable cloud based protection which seemed to work for some people but not for me, any other suggestions?

 

HDD usage spiking, short squeaky/creaky sound when at 100%

Hello everyone!

It's been a couple of days since my HDD start making a short, squeaky/creaky noice (definitely not grinding). At first it seemed random, then I noticed it's when the HDD is at 100% usage.

I have also noticed that my WiFi is spiking and was wondering if it may be related to the HDD issue somehow?

The HDD is used purely for storage, I have my OS and software on my SSD.

Model number and Windows version are visible in my specs.

I've done the following:

• ran Hard Disk Sentinel and CrystalDiskMark - both showing 'Good' as a result.
• ran chkdsk - no apparent issues (screenshot attached)
• disabled all startup programmes
• ran windows defender - no issues found

What may be the cause of this?
