  1. HDD Misassociation after Windows 10 Update (Seriously annoying!)

Hey there, hopefully someone can help me with this.

I'm not even sure why this keeps happening but ever since a few updates ago (possibly all the way back into 2019) in Windows 10, after resetting the computer after performing an update, I was dismayed to find that practically every single application I have ever installed into Windows has now been physically modified inside the registry (by force) to link to a completely different HDD.

My applications usually install into my D:/ drive but now everything thinks it's installed on my game's G:/ drive even though all the files are still on my D:/ drive. I've had to write some C# software with heightened privileges to modify and re-link registry damage one by one but after the most recent updates 1909 and 2004 the same problem has occured. So now (again) file associations can't find the programs, icons aren't linked leaving shorcuts blank, uninstallation locations are wrong etc. So in order to reinstall software as an alternative to fixing the registry damage through code, I first have to fix the uninstallation errors for that specific application so I can first uninstall it before I can finally reinstall it.

I have 7195 errors when running a registry scan in CCleaner due to everything being broken and unlinked (Last time I only got about 3k errors).

A secondary side effect that I found odd was that all my shortcuts on the desktop and including the start menu have been duplicated and only the copies with (1) amended on them link to the correct D:/ drive.

I'm so frustrated with this bug and the fact that all my work trying to fix it since the last time this has happened got completely undone by another update, I fear ever updating again since it seems to keep happening for my computer. I'm at the point that I feel I need to write a custom program and teach it litterally every single application that will need fixing and have that to run if it keeps happening.

I have no idea what I'd even call this type of problem, let alone keywords to search for so I've not had any success finding answers on google so I am hoping someone here on Reddit might know? Has anyone else experienced this incredibly annoying bug?

    Thanks.

HDD dying after windows 10 upgrade?

I'm currently downloading/installing windows 7 updates, no problems anymore with the HDD whatsoever

So it seems I'm not the only one with this HDD behavior on windows 10

I just live with windows 7 and windows 8.1 for now, they work just fine.

    Hi Johan,

    It is possible that your
    HDD was unreadable
causing the error message to appear. We recommend that you perform these troubleshooting steps and check if there are any changes:

    • Shutdown
      your
      PC.

    • Unhooked
      the
      HDD
      and
      turn on
      your
      PC.

    • Reconnect
      your
      HDD
      and
      restart
      your
      PC.

If the issue persists, we suggest that you contact your
    laptop/computer's manufacturer
    for further assistance.

Update us on how it goes.

    Regards.

HDD Misassociation after Windows 10 Update (Seriously annoying!)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
