HDD Shows in Devices But not in Explorer

I've got a zereoed HDD I want to format but formatting in win10 doesn't seem to be done by any disk handling prog I have found as yet.

I was told to right click on the drive in Explorer and pick format.

But the drive doesn't show in Explorer.

the system sees it alright. Device manager lists all the drives and there it is.

    What to do?

    :)

Portable HDD not available in Explorer but in Device Manager

Greg - It did not have a drive letter, but I followed your instructions and it does now and functions as before. Thanks for yours - and the other - replies! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

This might be an indication of disk fail.

    Download and run HDTune .

    HD Tune website

    Make screenshots of the following

    the health

    the error scan

    the benchmark

    Post back the screenshots.

You need to initialise and format the disc. This can be done in disc manager. Right click on the disc number and choose initialise.

To add to what swarfega is saying, with the drive plugged in, go to Start/Search and type diskmgmt.msc, right click the diskmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Disk Management window, the New Drive Wizard should start Automatically and ask you to Initialize the drive, Partition it and Format it. If not, in the lower pane of this window, right click the Disk # (ie) Disk1, Disk2 etc and choose to Initialize this drive, then right click the Unallocated Space, and choose to make a new simple volume, then Format it NTFS.
