Windows 10: HDD to SSD Lenovo Y510P

Hello,

I want to change my HDD to a SSD. My Y510P is on Windows 10 and has a small 24gb SSD already.

If I want to clone my HDD to my brand new Samsung Evo 850 500gb SSD it's not working, because there are Windows files in my small 24gb SSD.

In Disk Management it says there is 350 mb system reserverd.

Do I need to remove the small SSD if I want to clone my HDD to my SSD?

Windows 10 slow response or performance after waking up from sleep mode

Hi,

I have the same laptop lenovo y510p, but with an ssd.

the boot time on win10 is very fast; less than 5 secs to desktop. But it is very slow to wake up from sleep ~7-10 secs which is not acceptable. I performed a clean install and got the same symptoms. did anyone came up with a fix?

Intel core i7 4700MQ

16GB DDR3L

256 GB M.2 SSD+ 1TB hdd 5400 rpm

Single Nvidia card GT 755M

Windows 10 Pro TH2

I have a Lenovo Y510P with an i7, 16gb of RAM and an SSD, and it has this problem.

I read your first message and thought that is my problem so I updated the BIOS and got the same message again.

Any other ideas?

 

You have 2 hard drives, a spinner and a SSD (24GB).?

It's a good idea to perform a backup/image on a regular basis and especially before doing something like you're planning. There's always a chance something could go wrong and with a backup/image you've got everything to restore your system pretty quickly.

I tried migration software with the cable/cord connecting the SSD to USB and couldn't get it to work, what worked for me was removing the existing OS HDD, installing the new SSD (I have a desktop computer with a second drive for backups) booting from install media and choosing repair my computer and restored the backup image to the new SSD.

Before doing anything backup/image your existing drive, then use the link Ztruker posted, it looks pretty user friendly and straightforward, and should work fine. It's similar to what I did, and had the Samsung migration software worked I imagine that's about what it would have done too.

No it's not rocket science, I imagine if the OP Arsance knew how to do it he wouldn't have posted the question. We all know something somebody else doesn't. The link Ztruker posted will work fine to do what he needs to do.
