Windows 10: HDD works OK in docking station but NOT when installed internally

I have transferred files from one Windows 10 PC to an 8TB HDD using a SABRENT docking station via a USB port. When attached to another Windows 11 PC with that docking station using a USB port, that drive then appears in File Explorer and the files can be read. However, when I install that same HDD in the second PC, it is not shown in File Explorer. Windows Disk Management shows a 2TB Healthy GPT Protective Partition, plus another Unallocated 5TB. Moreover, right-clicking on either of those areas produces a menu with all the options grayed out except for "Help". How can I use that HDD

• What is the make and model of the computer?
  
• What is the make and model of the docking station?
  

The computer docking connections located on the bottom of the computer vary between computer models. For the docking station to work properly, the docking posts, eject mechanisms, and electrical connections on the docking station must be compatible
with the connections on your computer model.



Meanwhile, if the docking station is compatible, you may update the device drivers for your docking station and check if it works.



Update device drivers for docking station:

• Open the PC manufacturer support Web site, search for the
  Docking Station Driver for your PC model.
  
• Install the driver suggested and check.
  

If the issue persists, update the BIOS and try connecting the Docking Station again.



Note:

Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the
configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Hi,

The Update the latest chipset drivers
remark Is referring to the motherboard drivers not the HDD.

Other things to check are:

• Plug in a USB flash drive or another USB external HDD
  into the same USB port and see if it works ok as the docking station maybe faulty.

• Check all of the USB controllers in the device manager and see if any are showing a yellow exclamation mark.

Hi,

If the WD Black and the Maxtor drives (when inserted into the docking station) can be fully formatted and work properly when connected to the other PC, it sounds like
Windows is the problem.

Try the following:

• Insert the WD Black drive into the docking station
• Connect the USB cable to the new PC
• Turn on the power to the docking station
• Then restart the PC
• Then check it again

If Windows has a problem reading HDD while it is in the docking station, doing this sometimes fixes it.

If this does not work, leave everything as above and shut down the PC for 1 minute, boot the PC and check it again.
