    HDMI audio broke for no apparent reason


    For some reason HDMI audio is no longer working. I've done two recent changes since the last time I know it worked - the first was a routine Windows Update just a security update, not a feature update. The second was switching to UEFI boot using mbr2gpt, which unfortunately also means that I can't just rollback using system restore....Anyway, I've checked the sound applet in the control panel and it does detect the audio device, including the speaker configuration I have a 2CH TV and a 5.1 home theater system so I checked both. No error is displayed when attempting to test - in fact it's s

    One possible reason why your HDMI audio output was not working due to outdated drivers. To isolate your issue, kindly answer the following questions:

    • Have you made any recent changes prior to this issue?
    • Did you get any error messages when you tried to connect your computer to your TV?
    • Have you tried updating your HDMI audio driver?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

    Hi,

    Have you tried to reconfigure your audio settings? If not, try to change your audio output settings to HDMI by following the steps below:

    • Press Windows ( ) key + X.
    • Select Control Panel.
    • Click Hardware & Sound.
    • Click Manage Audio Devices.
    • Select the HDMI device listed under the Playback tab.
    • Click Set as default and click Ok.

    Also, we suggest to update your audio driver.

    If the Digital Output Device or HDMI is not an option under the Playback tab. You can run the Hardware and Device troubleshooter by following these steps:

    • Type Troubleshooting in Search or Cortana.
    • Click on “View All” in the top left corner.
    • Choose Hardware and Sound.
    • Click Playing Audio to run the troubleshooter.
