  1. HDMI audio vs integrated motherboard one

    hi guys!

I have an AsRock M3A785GMH7128M motherboard which has its own sound card integrated; from the specs I read about that:
Into this PC I also have HDMI audio available through the nVidia GT740 (GeForce GT 740 Graphics Card | GeForce|NVIDIA - the 2GB version) video card with two monitors attached.

I'm considering to also attach my audio receivers to the monitor audio output but I'm not sure if it would be useful, better for audio, will have downside, etc..
From this page: Which HDMI audio formats do NVIDIA GPUs support? | NVIDIA at the end of the page I read:
    which leaves me confused...

My audio receiver are low cost Logitech Z333 so I'm not searching for pure audio quality (I use my hifi audio stereo for that), I'm just trying to understand what will give me the best solution into this sit.. Do you have any suggestion guys?

thanks a lot, see you! *Wink

    :)

Why doesn't sound go to the TV?

Desktop or Laptop, Integrated video or Add On card?

The audio on the HDMI interface is in principle a different output from the normal Speaker/headphone output so the sound has to be routed to that interface. This is managed from the Sound Applet in Control Panel.

The "worst" case is that last option because that HDMI interface has no connection to the inbuilt audio device. At one time you could have a lead connecting the motherboard digital audio connector to a header on the graphics chip but modern graphics cards
have their own audio interface. This can cause problems because of just switching where the sound should go from the onboard audio it actually has to select what sound device to use.

Laptop and onboard graphics are simpler because the audio can be routed via the PCB but may still need the right settings in the Sound Applet.

HDMI Audio: Are Multiple Devices Possible?

Your GPU card or motherboard chip likely has only one HDMI Audio circuit or none, in which case audio processing is done by a separate chipset. One circuit can output only one audio signal, that's why you hear the same sound on both displays. Did you try
to connect one display via analog stereo audio, and the other via HDMI audio? Were you able to enable 2 different audio outputs in Windows Sounds, and then select the right audio inputs in your media players running media content on the laptop screen and external
    display?

Generally, the PC's audio, Realtek in your case, is the preferred audio and will have more options than the HDMI Audio.
The Realtek has analog outputs and (usually) an S/PDIF (digital) audio output. You can control the Realtek with the Realtek HD Audio Manager application.

    Hi there

one problem with using the HDMI audio from the monitor is that if you have the monitor turn off say if not being used for 10 mins (power settings) then the sound goes too until you hit a key to re-enable the monitor.

With a sound card so long as the computer is not in "sleep" mode it will work all the time.

That said the Audio quality is usually better from HDMI since it's created from Digital -- but on average computers with typical domestic / consumer grade components - the quality won't be mega great anyway --and given the usually pretty appalling quality of computer speakers I'd go for the most convenient option which IMO would be to use the built in audio rather than the HDMI one.

    Cheers
