    HDMI to HDTV ( Windows 10 )

    Hi,
I just purchased a new HDTV & connected it to my desktop w/ a HDMI cable ( the connection is via a splitter, one input to monitor the other to the TV ). Everything seems to be working but when I look @ playback devices it shows the TV that was previously connected as the one currently detected. There is no indication that a new device was connected. Any help would be appreciated. Also, graphics card drivers are up to date.

    Thanks

    :)

  2. playing video file to an HDTV and external speakers

yes - I used an HDMI cable from the PC to the HDTV - it worked fine, got voice and a good picture. then when I plugged in the audio out cable (from the PC to a stereo amp) - the HDMI connection to TV would still work but nothing thru the audio out.

I then removed the HDMI to HDTV connection and the audio out to stereo amp worked fine.

then I replugged-in the HDMI to HDTV cable and the connection to the stereo amp stopped - and the HDMI connection worked.

it appears that only one of these connections can work at a time - and the HDMI connection has priority over the audio out.

why? and is there something I can change in the windows 10 operating system to fix this?

    thanks

  3. HDMI output device HDTV doesnt appear in Playback devices, no sound only picture

Before I installed Win 10 I used my HDTV through HDMI cable as a second monitor, and watched movies where picture and sound was perfect and as it should be, but now after I have installed Win 10, the HDMI/HDTV doesn't appear in the Playback Devices. Only
picture works. I have tried everything from enabling to show disconnected devices and disabled devices to changing HDMI cable and output port. And when checking the HDTV in audio settings in AMD CCC, it says Your display does not support audio. Nothing has
    worked.

    System specs

    OS Windows 10 Pro

    MB ASUS P9X79 Pro

    CPU i7-3820 3.60GHz

    GPU AMD Radeon 7950 3GB

    HDTV Philips 32PFL3606H/12

    HDMI to HDTV ( Windows 10 )

I'm not sure that a splitter will work. The graphics card reads an EDID (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extend...ification_Data) from the monitor, and I don't know whether it'd happily read two EDIDs.

Do you have an alternate means of connecting the monitor to a separate output of the graphics device?

The monitor ( HP w2207h ) only has VGA or HDMI. VGA isn't very good. The thing is, both the monitor & TV are working fine being connected to the splitter amplifier. When looking @ playback devices in Sound it shows it is connected but the device name is the name of the old TV. Maybe the graphics ( 750ti ) works but doesn't "recognize" the change in TVs due to a splitter being used. Thanks for replying.

  6. Why did you use a splitter? Why not just feed the TV from a second video output of your video card? The PC will only ever see one device/monitor when using the splitter. You can only ever mirror what is displayed on both too. Unless that was your intent? If the two monitors have different resolutions it will be an issue, you can only ever set one resolution to be used by both displays.

TV only has HDMI & Graphics card only has 1 HDMI output. I guess I could get a DVI ( graphics card has DVI )> HDMI cable for the monitor. Still, it did recognize the older TV. Thanks.

  8. HDMI to HDTV ( Windows 10 )

I run 3 monitors, all are DVI. My video card has 2 DVI and one mini HDMI. I use a Mini to normal HDMI cable plugged into an HDMI to DVI adapter for one of my monitors.
Normally there is no sound from DVI, but on video cards that also have HDMI, it will sometimes work. They send an HDMI signal out over the DVI port or something?
You might lose the sound on the monitor connected with the DVI to HDMI cable. You won't know it until you try it. If your using dedicated PC speakers (like me) it won't be an issue.

I could try that as my graphics card has 2 DVI. I have USB speakers so sound isn't a problem. Just have to get DVI > HDMI cable.
I use the splitter ( which does work great ) since my previous computer only had HDMI. Thanks.

  10. The other advantage to running from your graphics card with no splitter is, you can switch to "Extend" mode and run the two displays independently. You could watch a video on the TV and do Internet on the PC monitor at the same time etc.

HDMI splitters (as well matrixes, switchers etc) recognize the last plugged output. so if you want to prioritize your monitor with the splitter, plug the TV first and then the monitor. it should give you the EDID of the monitor that way.

    HDMI to HDTV ( Windows 10 )

The problem is that when R clicking the sound icon in the tray & selecting playback devices the connected HDMI device that is shown has the name of my old tv not the new one. It is working though.

  14. That's because of the splitter. The splitter just feeds the one video signal to two devices. The PC has no way of knowing there are two monitors connected, it only see's the one device, the splitter. What gets show is likely the last device you had connected directly to the video card. Plug the new TV directly into the PC for one boot up. Then plug the splitter back in and see what it shows. The other alternative is the splitter just sends one EDID from what ever device is connected to its no 1 port. In that case swap your two monitor cables on the splitter and see what happens.

I switched the 2 outputs of the splitter & playback device NAME was changed to the monitor. Although it doesn't show the tv being connected, it is. This also changed screen resolution. I switched the outputs again & this had no effect ie. it still shows the HDMI connected to the monitor although the tv connection is working. I can't seem to get the tv connection to show up.
