Windows 10: Headphones don't stay stereo

I'm running Windows 10 Pro on a Dell Laptop. I have a new pair of headphones that are only sporadically operating in stereo; in fact, they operate in mono most of the time. I've cleaned out the ouptut jacks on my laptop and my Android tablet, and I've wiped off the headphones' jack with a microfiber cloth several times. I realize this is not strictly a Microsoft problem, but I'd like to hear from other folks who may have had this happen and how they dealt with it.Thanks.

Stereo Bluetooth Headphones do not reproduce stereo sound

Bluetooth 4.x headsets (headphones with microphone) have two modes:
1. Stereo headset speakers with NO microphone
2. Mono headset speakers with microphone

I see in the listing for your headphones it shows a microphone. Make sure your the audio is configured correctly so that you have stereo headphone speakers.

With your headphones connected with Bluetooth

Left-click on little speaker (bottom right on desktop)





You should see current speaker for computer
In this example headphones in stereo is selected





If you click on Headphones you will bring up all options

Right-click on little speaker (bottom right on desktop)





Select Sounds from list





If you want Stereo Headphones but NO microphone

Select Playback tab
Make sure Headphones is the current playback device





Select Recording tab
Make sure Microphone array (or similar) is the current recording device

 

Stereo Headset (HS-47) not working on Nokia 6650 (fold)

I've been researching this for a couple of weeks:

• Nokia offers no stereo headphones or headphone adapters that are compatible with this model
• AT&T offers no stereo headphones or headphone adapters that are compatible with this model

My conclusion. This is not a music phone. It's a farce. I'm taking it back (fortunately I've only had it for 22 days).

 

Set Headphones to 5.1 or Stereo

You mean after all this time since you bought the headphones, you haven't been scouring Head-fi.org to figure out what settings to use!!?

People here have suggested to set Windows to stereo and rely on your Creative service to handle any up-mixing. But because you are using stereo headphones, and not '5.1' headphones, I disagree.

Set Windows to 5.1 or 7.1
Set your headphones (Creative utility) to Headphone setting(including any preamp adjustments), on 8 channel using 44.1khz.
Set in-game (if available) to whichever sounds best(don't worry about aligning it to Windows settings, the in-game option is just a template they made up)

Remember that modern games use situational sounds, so 'surround' is provided almost entirely by the game. The only thing your headphones could do to enhance that, is to have a larger sound staging.
Using virtual surround such as SBX, is not ideal.

Have you invested in an amplifier yet? Putting some punch and authority into your DAC/card would go a long ways to brightening and highlighting the audio.
