    Headphones don't work 2018.08.14

When I plug in headphones windows indicates new hardware connected. No icon for headphones indicated with other hardware recognized in Control Panel. All tests related to sound, sound card function, plus volume settings indicate that output sound is being produced. I have two possible sound cards- NVIDIA 620 and Realtek HD. Tried every possible combination. Finally selected native soundcard: Realteck. I bought new headphones, they don't work. There are two headphone connections: front and back. I've tried both alone and together. I disabled speakers, no response. Re-enabled speakers. I think the problem started with the most recent MS update, but I am not sure. l checked updates- current for MS 10 and realtek (sound card).
