Windows 10: Headphones not switching over when plugged in

Hello, I am having problems with my headphones. I'm running windows 10 using boot camp. When I plug in my headphones headphone jack 1 cable they don't automatically switch to play sounds through them. I have to unplug the headphones for my computer to recognize them and switch over and but I have to plug them in again to actually hear sound: Its a two plug in process. The computer recognized the headphones when they are unplugged, not the initial plug in. Along with this my microphone doesn't work. Is the issue specific to only Headphones/ Does External Speaker play when plugged in?

I suggest you to try resetting the default device as shown in the steps given below and check if the issue persists.

  Click 'Change system sounds'.

  Click 'Playback' tab. (It should then show you your headphones in the list).

my computer volume keeps switching headphones only

To make sure I understand correctly, what exactly do you mean by "keeps switching to headphones only"? Was a headphone plugged in when that happens?

I would suggest you to try disabling the headphone and setting the speaker as default audio output by following the steps below and check if it helps.

1. Right click on the sound icon on the right bottom corner of the taskbar.

2. Select "playback devices".

3. If headphone is listed, right click and disable it.

4. If "speaker" is not set as the default device, highlight it and click "set as default".

5. Save the changes.

Speakers playing when headphones are plugged in

I have an HP laptop with windows 10. When my headphones are plugged in, the speakers are still playing. When I go to sounds, the only device listed is the speakers. How can I silence the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.
