Windows 10: Headset Plugged In Mic Works but Sound doesn't work?

I recently purchased the Razer Kraken X Headset and when I plugged it in I realized there was no sound! I checked the sound tab and it appeared that my mic was working, but the sound wasn't. The headphones device wasn't showing, it was just RealtekR Audio speakers, that also didn't work. Can someone help me out here? I've tried troubleshooting but it tells me to downgrade my drivers to "High Definition Audio." The sound worked fine, but it was using my laptop microphone and not my headset mic. I would like some assistance with this issue, since this headset has taken many hours of my life that I will never get back. Also I have an ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DT Laptop

Mic/Headphone ports not working correctly - Acer Aspire 7745

The speakers are 'plugged in' already as it is a laptop. With no external mic, headphones or external speakers plugged in, the Sound Control Panel lists three things under 'Playback' - HDMI, 'Speakers' and 'Realtek Digital Output' - the Speakers under 'Playback' is set as the default.

Under 'Recording' with no external mic plugged in these are listed - 'Microphone', 'Line In' and 'Stereo Mix' (Disabled) - the microphone (in this case, the internal one) is set to 'Default' under 'Recording' as well.

I don't have my headset here to test an external mic right now, but with normal external headphones plugged in, there is no change to the Sound Control Panel under 'Playback' - the same three listings (HDMI, 'Speakers' and 'Realtek Digital Output') with 'Speakers' set as the Default. If I make a noise, say, play a video, I can see the sound meters move to the sound, but no sound comes out of the headphones.

 

Headset with mic isn't working

Hello,

My computer system uses Realtek HIgh Definition Audio software for speakers and sound. I am not having trouble getting sound out of my computer's speakers. However, my headset with mic is not working.

I cannot figure out how to fix this because I still get the two notifications (one for headphones and the other for mic) when I plug it into the jacks.

During my researching on this issue, it seems like a common problem. Yet, none of the solutions from articles and YouTube videos have worked.

• Is there a software glitch between Windows 10 and Realtek software?
• Is there a software glitch between Windows 10's sound and audio settings and the teaching software I am using for work?
• *Can Microsoft tech support access my computer to fix this problem?

I am quite tech savvy but this has me beat - I have been at this for two days. I need Windows 10 to work to connect to my headset with mic attached when presenting in the teaching software for work.

Any assistance will be great appreciated.

Still not working for me. I did find out one more interesting fact:

I tried to go to Speech Properties (Advanced Speech Options -- under Speech Recognition)

and when I selected my Xbox 360 headset as the recording device, and restarted Speech Properties, it gave me the following error message:

"Could not initialize volume meter, please select a different recording device"

FYI -- I've messed with Privacy-Microphone and Control Panel-Sound settings to no avail: default devices, enabling/disabling, reinstalling drivers, levels, mute, etc. Nothing works. This is DEFINITELY a Windows 10 problem. My chat headset works great
on my Xbox360 and when I was on Windows 7, my USB Xbox360 controller and chat headset were working perfectly. I'm regretting my upgrade and highly debating reverting back.

Update: I found another thread and they recommended the follow which worked for me...
